CITY OF LOS ANGELES NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU!  

 

Call and email the budget committee below, especially if you live in their district, and tell them that habitat connectivity must be a priority in Los Angeles. The committee ranks the budget items on a scale of 1-5, with #1 being the most important.

We need wildlife corridors to be their priority #1! Some additional talking points you can make are:

 

►  LA's hillsides need funding for the wildlife corridor ordinance and for a biodiversity expert. 

 

►  Leaders can't publicly stand up for the environment without protecting LA's most fragile ecosystem.

 

  ► W ildlife and their corridors are vulnerable to being permanently wiped out in LA.

 

► I n the wake of climate change, we are out of time to protect LA's biodiversity.

It's because of bad votes across the planet, and kicking the can (or rather plastic bottle) down the path that has gotten us to this horrible place. Our local, state, and federal leaders must act now, because there is no later!

AFTER YEARS OF BUREAUCRATIC HURDLES, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FROM PET LOVER’S LICENSE PLATE GRANT PROGRAM ON THEIR WAY TO SUPPORT SPAY AND NEUTER

Drivers give money to reduce cat and dog overpopulation - $330,000 in grants being awarded to 11 different projects

                                                                                                             

MAY 12, 2019 – SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Food and Agriculture has awarded $330,000 for 11 projects that support spay/neuter services to reduce pet overpopulation, making good on a promise that has been held in bureaucratic limbo for years. The 11 programs include both non-profit and municipal initiatives.

"After years of legislative hurdles and navigating the bureaucratic process, we are thrilled to finally see funds collected from the Pet Lover's License Plate distributed to the organizations on the ground providing spay and neuter services to underserved communities," said Judie Mancuso, President and Founder of the California Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund, Inc., the nonprofit that did the work necessary to create the plate and collect the mandatory 7,500 pre-orders required to get the plate on the road . "We must thank Pierce Brosnan for the support and donated artwork, Dr. Gary Michelson, who contributed the initial resources needed to fulfill the pre-orders, and all the board members of the California Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund, Inc. who gave their time and energy, and everyone who bought the plate! We hope the distribution of funds inspires others to buy the Pet Lover's License Plate, which will continue our mission to end the pet overpopulation problem in California."

 

The California Pet Lover’s License Plate was announced in 2013, and costs $50 per year for a randomized plate or $98 per year for a personalized plate. Of this, approximately $40 per plate goes to support spay and neuter programs. This announcement of $330,000 in grant funding is the first such payout from the program.

 

Projects funded include mobile spay/neuter services, as well as projects that target reducing the number of pit bull and pit mixes being sheltered and reducing feral cat colonies in low income communities.
