In an uncommon move, House Bill 1303, which would give independent practice to APRNs, passed out of the House Public Health & Welfare committee within an hour after it was introduced.
That day, MAFP alerted our members to contact House committee members ASAP. Unfortunately, the bill was approved and it is item #27 on the House calendar. The bill may come up at any time on the House floor, so we must take action now.
This week your MAFP Advocacy Committee met with other primary care organizations and a letter expressing opposition to the bill is being mailed today to House of Representatives members.
This bill is on a fast track, so we need your help to stop it from passing the House.
Call your representative first, either personally or by calling the switchboard at (601) 359-3770, then make a second call to Speaker Gunn at (601) 359-3300.
We have created a webpage to give you talking points and resources. We encourage you to give your personal stories.
