The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is seeking public comment as part of their planning process to establish a Southwest Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Area. As part of their continuing effort to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people, the goals of the proposed conservation area are to support biodiversity and water resource conservation of Southwest Florida and provide science-driven landscape-level conservation supporting the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
"Building on partnership planning in the Southwest Florida landscape, the Service is proposing to establish a conservation area within a Southwest Florida Study Area which would enable the Service to protect environmentally sensitive lands by working with willing landowners through strategic acquisition and conservation easements."
The conservation area has the potential to assist with protecting unique natural communities and wildlife species of this area, including the Florida panther, under threat from rapid human population growth, land use changes, and effects of climate change.
We are asking our supporters to please submit comment by April 18th. More information can be found on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service website here.
