AB 478 (Zbur), the FOUND Act, will be voted on in the Senate Governmental Organization Committee this Tuesday, June 24th!
As you may know, the bill passed the Assembly with unanimous votes in support throughout. But now, the bill is in the Senate and we have received our first opposition letter from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
That is why we need your voice now!
The bill directs local jurisdictions to update their emergency plans with procedures for rescuing animals left behind in evacuation zones.
In their letter, they misinterpret the bill as opening the floodgates to chaotic rescue attempts. But that is exactly why we need the bill - to prevent the chaos that opposition is concerned about. Right now, there are no procedures for residents to follow or to turn to for help!
The goal of AB 478 is to ensure there are procedures in place and information is provided to the public so that residents know which entity to turn to when in need to help with a pet rescue and recovery, and that those procedures are safely implemented through the appropriate chain of command.
Please call the Committee members today and ask that they vote YES on AB 478!
