Call to Action!

quick reference: New Leadership!! BRW, Perspectives 101

Secretary Twyla Barrett: I missed the all-important introduction of a new Secretary for the Boulder County Republican Central Committee last week. Please welcome Twyla Barrett to the position as she takes over from Cathy Jarrett.

As a native Coloradan, Twyla became active in Young Republicans and door-knocked for Tom Tancredo’s 1976 campaign. She received an Official Invitation to Reagan’s First Inauguration after campaigning heavily for his 1980 Election. She visited the Soviet Union in 1978 with her HS Russian class with her teacher Jackie and husband Tom Tancredo, and witnessed the effects of Communism firsthand. Twyla was a Legislative Intern for Rep. Tancredo in High School for 2 years.

Twyla received a BA in Political Science from CU, with a double minor in Russian language and Fine Art History. She worked for the Office of Inspector General in Denver assisting with legal casework, for NOAA, NCAR, and finally as a Program Administrator (Finance/Administration) for UCAR.

She married Johnny in 1985 and moved to Gunbarrel and then Niwot in 1995. They have three children and are members of Rocky Mountain Christian Church. They have three boisterous Beagles.

Twyla became active in politics again 8 years ago. She is the DC for Niwot, a PCP, an Election Judge (Adjudication, UOCAVA, VSPC, and Sig Ver) and Auditor, and is the Office Manager for BCR.

From the Chairman: Per BCR bylaws, all District Captain assignment are retired at the biennial organizational meetings, which we held most recently on February 9th. Therefore, the process of selecting, nominating and electing this election cycle’s slate of District Captains is now underway.

My plan is to restore the District Captain area assignments as stated in our bylaw, therefore, each District Captain will be assigned one of the three Vice Chairman officers as their primary contact for all things DC related. The VC’s will work collaboratively to ensure consistency in the support provided for the DC’s.

If you are a previously serving DC and wish to serve again, or someone who has never served in this capacity but want to be considered for this role, please reach out to myself or any of the Vice Chairs to have your name added to the candidate list. I will be contacting you personally to review the DC role and responsibilities and, hear what you have to share regarding how we can best support this very important branch of the BCR organization.

Invest in what you believe in! Your contributions are used for these emails, the office, caucus materials, elections, the website, candidates themselves, the Liberty Road Show and more!

Please share your ideas too! What's the best way to reach your friends?

By becoming a "member" of BCR you are investing in all of this! Join for at least $15/month and receive a few benefits back directly to you too.

Help retire the Wreaths that were place through Wreaths Across America. (Previously postponed due to snow)

March 1, 7:00am Boulder County Republican Monthly Morning Meeting will have John DiGirolamo as the speaker.

John DiGirolamo is a critically acclaimed author, speaker and anti-human trafficking advocate. His latest book, It’s Not About the Predator: A Parent’s Guide to Internet & Social Media Safety, is a practical 30-page booklet to help keep kids safe on-line. The book details the predator’s playbook, grooming tactics, and specific proactive actions for parents. It also includes tips from an undercover police officer and how pornography feeds the predators.  DiGirolamo wrote this book because many of the tactics used by predator’s engaged in human trafficking are similar to when a predator exploits a child to obtain explicit pictures and extortion.

John also wrote the book It’s Not About the Sex because he believes that human trafficking is one of the most underreported issues of our day, that cuts across all economic, social, racial and political boundaries. He focused on stories from rural and suburban America, seeking to shine a light on and create awareness of the evils of human trafficking.

DiGirolamo previously wrote It’s Not About the Badge, a creative nonfiction book that profiles the human side of policing, featuring rural officers. After asking officers about a day on the job they would never forget, the book features compelling personal and professional stories of small-town police officers and has a 5-star rating on Amazon.

March 11 will be the State Central Committee Meeting

  • These Calls to Action are not sanctioned by anyone.  Not the RNC and not the BOCOGOP either, though they give me this platform to use and will kick me off if I misuse it.
  • I create this.  If you send me items to post, I may edit it, or I may not.  I appreciate it when things are sent because I cannot keep track of all that goes on in Boulder County!
  • The amount and thoroughness of these has only to do with how much time I have to spend on it and has nothing to do with the importance of an event.  Half the time I send this out and then notice 3 more items that you might have been interested in as well.
  • I assume this is not your only place to retrieve this sort of information.
  • And finally – I write conversationally – in other words, not well.  ;-)
Thank you for your time – and thank you for your continued support for everything that goes on in Boulder County!
