What we all love about Dana Point Harbor is our community spirit and extending a helping hand to a neighbor in need. Dana Point does this better than most communities and why we are so proud and passionate to call it our home port.
Dana Point Boaters Association is reaching out to all the boaters in the harbor to ensure you are aware of a critical situation which has developed at the Ocean Institute.
The Ocean Institute’s sailing vessel, Spirit of Dana Point, a gaff-rigged schooner, was scheduled for a million-dollar restoration project, including a deck replacement, beginning in early 2022 with completion by December 2022 in compliance with a U.S. Coast Guard approved maintenance plan.
The repair process was accelerated when the Ocean Institute received a 30-day cancellation notice from its insurance provider even though it was following the USCG plan. The repair project must commence, or the boat pulled out of the water by June 20th.
In a June 10, 2021 article, published in the Dana Point Times, it was reported the Ocean Institute has reached the halfway point of $500,000 in its fundraising efforts.
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated!
We would also like to give a shout-out to Curlew Charters for partnering with the Ocean Institute to get the kids out on the water for summer camp. That is what a good neighbor does!
