Rare Earth

This all-media group show seeks to highlight the impact humankind has had on our rare and beautiful Earth. Artwork should shine a light on the ecological problems that are occurring around us, the actions that we are taking to protect our planet, and why our environment is worth conserving and celebrating.

Please provide a brief artist's note (1-3 sentences) with your entry form to express how your artwork explores this theme.

Exhibit dates: June 4-26, 2021 with a reception First Friday June 4, 5-7pm.

Exhibit judge: Susan Holt, Gallery Director, Instructor of Fine Arts, University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Awards: Prizes awarded for first place: $150, second place: $100, third place: $75, and 3 honorable mentions. All award winners will be invited to participate in our year-end "Best of 2021" exhibit during the month of December 2021.

Eligibility: Artist must be 18 years or older. Artists may submit up to two pieces of original artwork, relevant to the theme, securely framed and properly wired for hanging. The maximum outside frame dimensions may not exceed 32x40". Please click here for complete entry requirements.

Sales: The ALOC receives a commission of thirty percent (30%) of the sale price of artwork and all sales of artwork exhibited must be processed through the ALOC.
Additional Information: The ALOC has the right to refuse any artwork that does not meet its exhibit criteria. Artwork will be displayed on a space available basis.
The Art League of Ocean City is committed to featuring a broad spectrum of artists from diverse backgrounds (including race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion) and encourage all to apply.

  • Artwork must be wired for hanging; no sawtooth hangers or alternative backings can be accepted. Tip: place your eyehooks approx. one-third down from the top of the frame. Consider the weight of the artwork and use d-rings for heavier pieces.
  • Canvas without a frame must be gallery wrapped with no staples or tacks showing. Edges must be painted to compliment the work - either a solid color or continuation of imagery.
The Art League of Ocean City is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting artistic expression and appreciation for the creative arts in our community. Financial support comes primarily through membership dues from individuals and corporate partners. Funding is also provided by the Worcester County Arts Council, Maryland State Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, organizations dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive.
