Shadow is not-to-secretly a favorite here at SCAR. Staff members sneak him into the office to hang out and volunteers always request him to take for a walk. So why has this handsome boy been living at the Sunset Park shelter for a whole year? Shadow is a two-year-old Doberman mix, but don't be intimidated by his size. He is a gentle giant and a big baby, who loves to play with people, dogs, toys...you name it! Click the pic to show Shadow some love on Facebook!
Meadow CALLING ALL WITNESSES!

 

Sean Casey Animal Rescue needs your help to find those responsible for the cruelty and death of this dog we are calling Meadow...

 

On January 11, 2015 at about 8:30PM we received a call from a person who witnessed a dog being thrown out of a car; the driver then backed over her and drove away. We rushed over to the location (Pacific Street between Buffalo and Rochester in Brooklyn, NY) and found Meadow severely injured and clinging to life. She had several bite wounds that were badly infected. We rushed her to Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group but it was too late: the doctors pronounced Meadow 'dead on arrival'.

Tips For Tails

Come rain, sleet or snow...your dog still needs to go for a walk. Here's how to keep you both safe when the weather outside is frightful.

 

1. Put a jacket on your dog-especially puppies, seniors, small breeds, and shorthaired dogs.

 

2. Walk your dog with a solid leash, not a retractable one. A jogger's leash stays attached to you even if you lose your footing on a slippery surface.

 

3. Ice-melting salt might prevent people from slipping, but the toxic chemicals it's made of can burn dogs' paws. Protect their sensitive paw pads with booties or Musher's Secret- a wax that acts as a semi-permeable shield from snow and salt.

 

4. After the walk, wash your dog's paws so he doesn't lick and ingest any toxic chemicals. If his paws look red or cracked, moisturize them with more Musher's.
