We’re unleashing the Spirit this Sunday.
Because of the high chance of rain, this year’s Blessing of the Animals will be held in the Sanctuary during the 9 am service. All pets are welcomed to bring their humans. And don’t be shy, over the years we've seen all kinds of animals in the pews -- a rooster, a few snakes, guinea pigs, and many a child's favorite stuffed animal, just to name a few.
Because we know humans of all ages will want to be there for the Blessing, there will be no Children’s Chapel this Sunday. But the nursery is still open.
We look forward to seeing you and your pets.

Come Celebrate our Reconnection.
The St. James’s Celebration: A Feast of Goodwill & Connection is just around the corner. On October 26, we’ll be gathering at the Dewey Gottwald Center at the Science Museum of Virginia for a wonderful night of dining, live music, entertainment, an open beer and wine bar, and countless chances to Connect & Reconnect.
The live music and entertainment is traditionally a surprise. Only Mark Whitmire and his talented performers and singers know.
How many past themes can you remember?
2001 - Gershwin Songs, 2002 - O Brother, where art thou?, 2003 - West Side Story, 2004 - Sister Act, 2005 - The Beatles, 2006 - The Wizard of Oz, 2007 - Music of the 50’s, 2008 - Bob Dylan, 2010 - Italian Opera, 2011 - South Pacific, 2012 - Music of 1912, 2013 - Fiddler on the Roof, 2014 - Queen, 2015 - Stevie Wonder, 2016 - Lion King, 2017 - The Sound of Music...
What will the music be this year? Come and find out!
This special event is free but there's a suggested voluntary donation of $10 per person.
Deadline to register is Wednesday, October 19th - we know everyone is getting busy, but please take a minutes to register now and select your preferred entree by going here.
The Celebration isn't possible without our MUCH NEEDED VOLUNTEERS. You can sign-up here. You can also sign up to volunteer in the Narthex this Sunday morning.

St. James's Annual Giving
Please be on the lookout for your Annual Giving letter in the mail–which includes a pledge card and return envelope. You can also make your 2023 pledge online here.
As our church reconnects in so many ways, your decision to recommit to pledging is more essential than ever. Thank you for giving this your most thoughtful and prayerful consideration.

Get your very own St. James’s
Name Tag to have and keep.
The church will now happily make a permanent name tag for you, complete with a plastic holder that has your choice of a magnet attacher or a pin/clip.
You can also go to doers.org, scroll down on the Home Page to the Latest News, and you'll see the Name Tag square. Click on that and it will take you to the registration page.

Calling all parents!
You’re invited to
our first Youth Parent Social.
For any parent who wants to spend some casual time with other parents, mark your calendar for Saturday, October 14 from 6 to 7:30 pm in the Quirk Hotel Lobby Bar.
|
That’s the date of our first quarterly Youth Parent Social. Come for some fellowship with other youth parents and enjoy a drink and appetizers on St. James's.
If you can’t make this Social, the next one is November 11.

Meet the women
in the REAL LIFE program.
Sunday, October 16
REAL LIFE is one of our primary outreach partners. To strengthen our partnership, we're having a cookout and picnic with the women in the REAL LIFE program on Sunday, October 16 at 1pm.
Come to the Carillon Shelter at Byrd Park to enjoy food, lawn games, and fellowship–plus the powerful opportunity to engage with and get to know our neighbors in a "ministry with" model versus "ministry for." All ages are welcome!
We need 15-20 volunteers to help setup, grill, and clean up, but feel free to just sign up to attend (so we have an idea of how much food to get)!
You can indicate on the signup if you want to volunteer or just attend.

The next Young Family Social is Saturday, October 8th
Our first Young Family Social a few weeks back was a huge success. To be part of the next one, save the date: October 8 from 4 to 6 pm.
The social will be held at the home of Erin and Bryce Jewett (5 Paxton Road). St. James’s will provide snacks, water, and lemonade. Please feel free to bring a favorite beverage to enjoy! If you have children living at home, these socials are for you!

We're calling on our Youth to take part in our worship services.
The training is this Sunday afternoon.
Would you like a leadership role in our worship services this year as an acolyte, lector, and/or usher? Are you a rising fifth through twelfth grader? If so, please complete this form to receive more information! The form says Acolyte but it's really for acolytes, lectors and ushers.
You don’t have to do one role, you can participate in as many ways as you like.
We will hold our training this Sunday from 1:30-2:30 in the Sanctuary.

Noon Eucharistic Service
This coming Wednesday, October 5
we will NOT have our Noon Eucharistic Service.
Our parking deck partner, Beth Ahabah, will be using the deck for Yom Kippur. This includes our surface lot too.
The service will return on Wednesday, October 12.
