Calling all professional artists and teams: $1 million available to integrate public art into VenturaWaterPure Advanced Water Purification Facility

Ventura, Calif. — The City of Ventura is excited to announce an opportunity for professional artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for integrating public art into the VenturaWaterPure Advanced Water Purification Facility project.

With approximately $1 million in specifically designated funds for public art in connection with Water and Wastewater projects, artists are invited to harness their creativity and contribute to a project that will have a lasting impact.

"Ventura is blessed to have so many talented local artists and artist teams. We strongly encourage our professional artist community to participate in this momentous opportunity,” Mayor Joe Schroeder shared.

The VenturaWaterPure project aims to integrate captivating artwork into the Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF), enriching the visitor experience and highlighting the critical importance of water recycling in our environment. The future facility, located at Harbor Boulevard and Olivas Park Drive, is poised to become a canvas for innovative artistic expression that resonates with facility visitors and educational tour groups for years.

The AWPF project was approved by the Arts & Culture Commission for inclusion in the public art program’s Annual Projects Plan on June 13, 2023. As it moves forward, the Arts & Culture Commission and Water Commission will be involved in the project’s public art component.

The artist selection process will be overseen by a committee composed of representatives from the City of Ventura and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), who are consulting with the City on this project. Once selected, the chosen artist or artist team will collaborate closely with project stakeholders and experts to integrate their artistic vision within the AWPF project.

Interested artists and artist teams are encouraged to review the request for qualifications (RFQ) document, which provides detailed information on project goals, eligibility criteria, submission requirements, and the selection process. The RFQ document is available at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/VWPpublicart and www.CODAworx.com.

Artist submissions will be accepted via www.codaworx.com now through September 30, 2023.
