"Hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor," proclaims Pope Francis in his encyclical, Laudato Si': On Care for our Common Home.
April is Earth Month, and we invite you to listen, learn and join us in answering this critical call to live Laudato Si' and our commitment to the seven-year action platform, intensifying actions for greater social and environmental justice by:
- Recognizing that everything is a gift from God, and thus we embrace our dependence on all creation.
- Committing to the preferential option for the cosmic common good.
- Striving for spiritual growth, simplicity, intentionality, stewardship and justice in our living and decision making.
- Nurturing our cosmic awareness, the call to develop mutual relationships with all creation and practice regeneration and sustainability of Earth.
- Educating, advocating and acting for the healing and care of all.
You can collaborate with us and the global Catholic community in care for creation in many ways, including signing the Laudato Si' Pledge, committing to the seven-year action platform and contributing to the movement's seven goals, joining the FSPA Office of Integral Ecology at Sustainability Institute's Earth Fair on April 30 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and volunteering with us on our land at St. Joseph Ridge.

Nurturing, harvesting and enjoying nature's bounty is a Franciscan tradition that FSPA has honored since the community purchased a farm on St. Joseph Ridge in 1895. These sisters tended to apple trees on the land (date unknown). Want to learn more about FSPA history and milestone moments in the time of our community? Visit fspa.org.
