SUMA Calling for a Provincial Cannabis Legalization Strategy
Recreational cannabis will be legalized on July 1, 2018. Saskatchewan hometowns will be on the front lines, and you need to know the provincial government's plans to properly prepare.

We told you about ongoing efforts on this issue in September. Now,  SUMA has made a public call for the Government of Saskatchewan to consult with members, and provide a legislative framework for you to build on when it comes to cannabis legalization.

To date, we have received no concrete plans or information from the Province, and time is running out.  Hometowns will need to consider land-use planning and zoning bylaws, licensing, human resource policies, where cannabis can be consumed in your municipality, business licensing, and more. Much of that work cannot begin until we know the provincial plan.

We encourage members to join your voice with ours and ask for the information you need to get your municipality ready.
How You Can Amplify Our Voice
Engage your local media with  this template letter to the editor you can personalize and send to nearby outlets - newspapers, radio stations, and TV stations.

SUMA members have a powerful collective voice, so you can use  our template letter to
write Justice Minister Don Morgan
and join our call for the Province to share their plan so our members can prepare.
Keeping Up With the Cannabis Conversation
To help members prepare for cannabis legalization, and keep up with the latest developments on our advocacy, we prepared a website hub. There, you can find the templates to help you raise the issue locally, links to resources, and media coverage of the issue.
