She was about to lose power...
Kit* was a single mom of two children, working full-time. Due to an injury, she was no longer able to waitress. She quickly got another job as an Uber driver. However, her income was less than what she had been making. Keeping up with her expenses became overwhelming and she found herself behind on her electric bill.
On July 1, the moratorium on residential electric and gas shut-offs ended. When Kit received a shut-off notice with her overdue bill, she did not know what to do. Fortunately, Kit had heard about Beverly Bootstraps and she reached out to our Case Management team for help. We helped her contact her electric company and set up a payment plan for her overdue bill. In addition, Kit enrolled in our Food Pantry and her children will receive backpacks and school supplies through our Back-to-School Backpack Program.
Our mission is to make our clients self-sustainable and we are helping Kit once again reach that goal. We are fielding more calls than ever before since the moratorium on utility shut-offs has ended. Thanks to you and our community of supporters, we are here to assist clients, like Kit, get back on their own two feet.
