SM
25th Avenue Grade Separation Project

Night/Weekend Work

At night on Monday, August 5 to Friday, August 9, installation of the retaining wall panels may occur between the pedestrian underpass to 28th Avenue.

Construction Work
Monday, August 5  to Friday, August 9:
  • Leslie Street: Crews will be welding rail. The street may be temporarily closed for approximately two and a half weeks (for more information, click here.)
  • Pedestrian Underpass north: Crews will work on the retaining walls, including installing rebar and wall panels, and will work on the platforms by forming the footing and installing rebar.
  • 28th Avenue: Crews will remove some surface features and rebar the bent cap, as well as work on the walls for the platform stairs and ramps.
  • 31st Avenue: Crews will be constructing retaining walls. Please note, trucks may be used to remove the dirt.
  • 10th to 14th Avenues: Crews may even out soil distributed in this location, install a drainage ditch to prevent any excess runoff, and hydroseed. Soil was originally distributed in this location in preparation for a future set-out track as a previous one was removed due to the grade separation project. No set-out track installation will ooccur, as a construction contract has not been issued. A community meeting on this future project was held on June 11, 2019. For more information, visit www.Caltrain.com/HP_Set-OutTrack. Please note that Caltrain Electrification crews will be utilizing the area between 9th and 14th Avenues as a pole laydown area. Crews will utilize the area to load poles on to a construction flat car via crane and then install those poles on completed foundations along the right-of-way. The work will take approximately *3-4 weekends before the end of the year, and then two weekends next year. Work hours will be primarily during evening, weekend hours. During this time, there may be some noise from backup alarms and limited light as cranes and equipment turn. For more information on Caltrain Electrification, please visit www.CalMod.org/Construction or sign-up to receive notices as www.CalMod.org/Get-Involved.
  • Parking lots near 31st Avenue to the east of Hillsdale Station: Crews will be conducting AT&T utility relocation work.

*This is a correction to the 25th Ave Grade Separation Project-specific newsletter that went out earlier today.

PG&E Pipeline Work
PG&E began the final stage of work on its gas line relocation on July 15, which includes the closure of Pacific Blvd. and intermittent lane closures on S. Delaware (between 25th and 28th Avenues) for up to seven weeks (more information here).

Parking Impacts
On Saturday, August 3 to Friday, August 9, 2019, there will be no access to the Caltrain temporary parking lot from 31st Avenue. Vehicles can access the lot from 28th Avenue at S. Delaware. Please note some spaces in the temporary parking lot located on the eastside of the Hillsdale Station will be unavailable due to the construction work.

Separately, construction work for Caltrain Electrification will occur in the parking lot south of Hillsdale Avenue. For more information, visit CalMod.org/SanMateo.

We apologize for any inconvenience while this important safety improvement project is being constructed.

Background

Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project  will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.

In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Neighbors may experience construction noise and light during these times. Please note that the Hillsdale Station will temporarily close in late 2019 for six months for the building of the new elevated Hillsdale Station. To learn more, please join us for a Virtual Town Hall on July 31. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2021.

pcepCaltrain Electrification

Caltrain Electrification

Caltrain  Electrification is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization program which will electrify the Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco's 4th and King Caltrain Station to approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station.

The primary purpose of Caltrain Electrification is to improve Caltrain system performance, reduce long-term environmental impact by reducing noise, improving regional air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system would better address Peninsula commuters' vision of increased service and improved travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. This also is expected to help accommodate increase system ridership through improved system operations.

For information on upcoming community construction update meetings, please visit the Caltrain Electrification Project events page at http://CalMod.org/Events.
