Construction is advancing along the Caltrain corridor! To accommodate the brand new electric trains, construction crews will began work in the four San Francisco tunnels starting in October 2018. That weekend work has concluded and Caltrain has restored regular weekend service to and from San Francisco.

Poletti Way Traffic Notice
Starting August 8, temporary lane closures of Poletti Way between East Grand Avenue and Corporate Drive will be required to facilitate the construction of street improvements being completed as part of the Caltrain South San Francisco Station Improvement Project. One lane of Poletti Way will remain accessible to local and through traffic during construction. Please pay attention to additional signage when using Poletti Way.
After the completion of the South San Francisco Station Project, Poletti Way will become a two-way street, with the Southbound lane being reserved for buses serving passengers at the new South San Francisco Station.
Linden Avenue Grade Crossing
Caltrain will continue installation of overhead wire along the corridor in South San Francisco as part of Caltrain Electrification. Vehicles may experience short delays at the Linden Avenue grade crossing during wire installation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 31st Avenue: Crews will work on the abutments, They will also remove some surface features, and excavate and remove dirt from the site (trucks may be used to remove the dirt).

25th Avenue north: Crews will work on the retaining walls, also, in between 25th and 28th Avenues crews will install a V-ditch for including a trench and concrete V-drain

28th Avenue: Crews will work on the CIDH piles. They will also work on the platform, installing forms and rebar for the footing, and excavating and removing dirt from the site (trucks may be used to remove the dirt).

North of 25th Avenue: Crews will continue to install retaining walls and also brackets on the wall for the future overhead catenary system for Caltrain electrification.

Parking lots near 31st Avenue to the east of Hillsdale Station: Crews will be conducting AT&T utility relocation work.
Also, on Wednesday, May 15 to Friday, May 17, crews will install an underdrain for the platform ramp at 28th Avenue.
Parking Impacts
On Saturday, May 11 to Friday, May 17, 2019, there will be no access to the Caltrain temporary parking lot from 31st Avenue. Vehicles can access the lot from 28th Avenue at S. Delaware. Please note some spaces in the temporary parking lot located on the eastside of the Hillsdale Station will be unavailable due to the construction work.

Background
Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of San Mateo, will raise the tracks and slightly lower the road (grade separate) at E. 25th Avenue in San Mateo. This will improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians, and it will reduce local traffic congestion in San Mateo. In addition, the project will create new east-west street connections at 28th and 31st Avenues; and as part of the project improvements, Caltrain will build a new elevated Hillsdale Station with updated amenities at E. 28th Avenue.
Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2020. In order to maintain regular train service, some activities will be conducted during nights and weekends, outside of normal train service hours. Electrification is a key component of the Caltrain Modernization program which will electrify the Caltrain Corridor from San Francisco's 4th and King Caltrain Station to approximately the Tamien Caltrain Station.
The primary purpose of Caltrain Electrification is to improve Caltrain system performance, reduce long-term environmental impact by reducing noise, improving regional air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An electrified Caltrain system would better address Peninsula commuters' vision of increased service and improved travel times in an environmentally friendly and reliable way. This also is expected to help accommodate increase system ridership through improved system operations.

Parking spaces #344-357 and #390-411, also located in the southern portion of the Hillsdale Station parking lot have been temporarily fenced off in order for crews to install a staging area to support this construction. Parking spaces #437-441, #456-457, and #464-472, also located in the northern portion of the Sunnyvale Station parking lot, will be temporarily fenced off in order for crews to install a staging area to support this construction. Four (4) ADA parking stalls will be temporarily re-located to the north end of the parking lot adjacent to the northern sidewalk ramp. San Mateo: Set Out Track Area
On Saturday, May 11 to Friday, May 17, crews may further grade soil and prepare for the installation of drainage ditches inside the Caltrain right of way in between 10
th Avenue and 14
th Avenue in preparation for a future set-out track maintenance area. A set-out track creates a storage space for track maintenance equipment. Crews will take steps to ensure there aren't environmental impacts and will work according to Caltrain's dirt handling plan. The actual facility will not be constructed until a contract is awarded as early as Winter 2019. For more information visit

San Carlos
The San Carlos Transit Village project is continuing work on new pedestrian pathways surrounding the San Carlos Caltrain Depot Plaza as the final phases of site improvements are completed. Crews will be temporarily blocking off plaza access (between the station and El Camino Real. The area below the tracks will continue to be kept clear to allow travel to opposite sides of the tracks. Please allow yourself extra time accessing and leaving the station.
Dumbarton Rail Corridor
The San Mateo County Transit District has entered into a partnership with Cross Bay Transit Partners to explore improving transportation along the Dumbarton Rail Corridor. You may notice crews along the corridor assessing the condition of the route. The information gathered will help inform the existing conditions analysis.
