All Eyes On Us

Earlier this month, I attended the American Public Transit Association’s TRANSform & Expo where we had a huge turnout to see our new electric train. The excitement and support from public transit leaders from across the country reaffirmed that we are bringing a world-class train system to the Caltrain corridor.

Meanwhile, here at home, the electrified corridor edged closer to completion, with the testing of the new electric trains continuing from San Jose to Mountain View. This October marked a significant milestone when the inaugural electric trainset surpassed 1,000 miles of testing, ensuring the reliability and safety for future service. Later this year, we’re expecting to welcome home an additional four train sets which will begin testing as soon as they arrive.

But that’s not all! We released a preview of the electrified service, supported new transit-oriented housing near Tamien Station, and delivered fans to see the Sharks at the SAP Center and the Warriors at Chase Center!

I hope to see you on board soon!

Caltrain Lays Out Vision for Electrified Service

Caltrain released a preview of what electrified service could look like when it announced its proposed electrified service plan this month. The proposed schedule will provide faster and more frequent service to more stations. Express trains will travel from San Francisco to San Jose in less than an hour, with more stations receiving express service. Local trains will reduce their travel time by 25 minutes, and weekend service will be every half hour, double what it is today. Caltrain is eager for community feedback, so let us know what you think of the future of our service.

New Transit-Oriented Development Breaks Ground Near Tamien Station

Construction of a 555 unit apartment building next to Caltrain’s Tamien Station began this month as more new housing comes to the corridor. Caltrain is a proud supporter of this VTA led project and Board member Chavez represented Caltrain at the groundbreaking event. Caltrain is always happy to support transit-oriented development, which has been proven to get more people onboard transit and off our congested highways. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025.

Caltrain Ready for a New Warriors Season

Bay Area basketball fans looking to avoid the high cost of parking can count on Caltrain to get them to the Chase Center to see the Golden State Warriors this season. Fans can take Caltrain to the San Francisco Station at 4th and King Streets, where they can walk less than a mile to Chase Center or take advantage of a free transfer to Muni Light Rail. We look forward to seeing lots of Warriors fans on board this season!

Caltrain Lives Every Week Like It’s Shark Week

Sports fans who prefer their action on the ice will be delighted to learn that Caltrain is their ticket to the San Jose Sharks this season. The SAP Center is just across the street from Caltrain’s San Jose Diridon Station, so Sharks fans can always count on Caltrain for a ride to the game. Go Sharks, and we hope to see all of you on your way to the ice!

Caltrain Celebrates Filipino American History Month

The Caltrain Board voted to recognize Filipino American History Month in October, in order to acknowledge the many cultural contributions made by Filipino Americans. Caltrain is here to serve everyone, and we are proud to celebrate the diversity that has made the Bay Area a vibrant and wonderful place to live.

Promotional Fares Still Available!

Caltrain has introduced new fare promotions that make it easier than ever to ride Caltrain. There are discounts for families and groups that travel together, $1 rides for Clipper Youth Card holders and a three day unlimited pass, all while parking at Caltrain stations is half off. So if you have somewhere to go, get on board Caltrain and save money and time.

In light of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the Bay Area, Caltrain is monitoring the situation and following local public health agencies and CDC guidance regarding public meetings.
Caltrain is implementing a bold service vision for the future with a series of infrastructure and planning projects to modernize the system. Central among these projects is Electrification, which lays the foundation for a faster, greener, cleaner, and more reliable system for everyone.
