Reminder: Upcoming Eastbound and Westbound I-10 Rest Area Closures

Machines & Our Teams: While we may use heavy machinery to expedite certain concrete processes, good old-fashioned hand smoothing never goes out of style.

Friendly Reminder: Upcoming Rest Area Closures

Eastbound Cactus City Rest Area closures are scheduled to take place starting next Tuesday, February 18 through Friday, February 21 for crews to modify on and off-ramp lighting.

Once eastbound work is completed, crews will conduct westbound Cactus City Rest Area closures from February 24 through March 3 to complete similar lighting modifications.

Please remember to be #workzonealert and remain focused on the road ahead as our crews and equipment work near live traffic.

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
