Holiday Travel? Make Safety Your Priority!

With 4th of July Celebrations Around the Corner...

Remember to place safety at the very top of your list! As you and other motorists travel throughout Southern California for 4th of July celebrations, please follow all posted speed limit signs, provide ample space for other vehicles, avoid distracted driving, and NEVER drink and drive. Making safety a priority ensures the safety of your passengers and other drivers on the road!

Reminder: Westbound Rest Area Closure

From now through Monday, August 5, 2024 the Westbound I-10 Cactus City Rest Area will be CLOSED. This closure will ensure crews can safely and efficiently complete water and sewer line construction and reconstruct the rest area on-and off-ramps. Please remember to plan ahead when traveling through the project area and be sure to keep a watchful eye for crews and construction equipment.

Traffic Switch Reminder

Please remember to remain #WorkZoneAlert while traveling through our project. Eastbound and westbound traffic configurations throughout our project have recently changed, including the installation of a westbound crossover (below). Help keep the roadway safe for motorists and our crews by reducing your travel speed, following all posted signs, providing ample space for other vehicles, and avoiding distracted driving.

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
