Upcoming Rest Area Activity

Not Just Roads: With the increase of electric vehicles on the road, the demand for accessible and efficient electric vehicle charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, making charger installation a key component of modern transportation planning.

Modern Amenities On The Way:

Our crews have been hard at work constructing fresh roads and delivering improved safety to the I-10. Starting Friday, May 2 through Friday, May 9, our crews will be conducting prep work for the installation of new electric vehicle chargers in both eastbound and westbound I-10 rest stop areas. This work will consist of installing pull boxes as well as running new wire and conduit that will provide necessary electric vehicle charger infrastructure to our rest areas.

As this work is underway, please remain #WorkZoneAlert when traveling through our project area.

Project Background

The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
