Disaster Preparedness

Whether it be a fire, flood, hurricane or other natural or man-made disaster, the best time to plan for a disaster is before it happens. While the importance of emergency planning for small business owners may seem obvious, the task may get put off in the face of more pressing concerns. Planning now can make all the difference in getting back to business quickly following a disaster.

Made in Calvert: Naturally Silky Soap

Leila Mitchell started her career as a pharmacist but turned her knowledge and skills into a passion that has become a unique body product manufacturing company in Huntingtown, Naturally Silky Soap.

After recognizing the harmful ingredients in commercial body products, she was determined to create better options in soap, deodorant, moisturizers, salves, balms and bath accessories. Leila points to the Environmental Working Group’s statistic that American women use an average of 12 cosmetic products with about 168 ingredients daily, and men use six products with about 85 ingredients. Many of those products contain harmful chemicals. But Naturally Silky Soap products contain all-natural, vegan ingredients like olive oil and coconut oil which serve as an antioxidant, cleanser and moisturizer. They are hypoallergenic and penetrate deeply into the skin without clogging pores.

“All my products are made in small batches with natural oils and butters, not from a pre-made soap base which can contain harmful chemicals,” she says.

Handcrafted, sustainably made with honest ingredients and beautiful enough to display in your guest bath, Naturally Silky Soap is vegan skincare straight from nature! Order online (free shipping on orders over $40) or buy local at a variety of small shops.
