Hello friends!

Let’s talk about assistive technology. Do you know there are items to make your life easier like talking clocks and pocket talkers? As we age, our vision and hearing isn’t what it used to be. A talking clock can keep you running on time and a pocket talker amplifies sound so you may be able to hear better even without a hearing aid. Assistive technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment or product system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional abilities of an individual with a disability.

What’s even better is that we have an agency that serves the tri-county area to help us learn more about what AT is available.
Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living (SMCIL) in collaboration with Maryland Technology Assistance Program has opened the Southern Maryland Regional Assistive Technology Loan Library to support access to AT. The loan library enables individuals with disabilities to live, work and learn more independently by allowing a consumer to see and try the latest AT prior to purchasing.

Location and contact information for SMCIL is below. They are conveniently located for tri-county residents!
