The BOCC received a COVID-19 update from Calvert County Health Officer Dr. Laurence Polsky during the Feb. 9 board meeting.

Dr. Polsky, who directs the local health department as an agent of Maryland State Government, provided updates to the BOCC on testing, positivity rates and vaccination efforts in Calvert County.

PRE-REGISTER FOR THE COVID-19 VACCINE ONLINE
Calvert County residents age 18 and older who wish to receive a COVID-19 vaccination may pre-register online.

PRE-REGISTER OVER THE PHONE
A call center is also available to assist Calvert County residents who wish to pre-register for the vaccination over the phone. For assistance, residents may call 410-535-0218, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine through the Calvert County pre-registration portal, your information has been received. Pre-registration is intended to identify individuals interested in the vaccine and to establish a means of communication with the Health Department when vaccine doses are available for eligible populations. Even if you do not hear back right away, you do not need to re-submit your information. You may visit www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/Vaccine for answers to frequently asked questions. Please contact your primary care physician for any health questions related to the vaccine. 
Residents experiencing difficulty paying their energy bills are urged to contact their energy provider immediately; options are available to prevent disconnection of service.

SMECO members have access to a variety of assistance programs for paying their electric bills. If your income has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, find out about assistance available or call 888-440-3311 and speak to a customer care representative.

BGE customers who have fallen behind on their energy payments can visit their website or call 800-685-0123 to speak with a customer care representative about establishing flexible payment arrangements and options for energy assistance grants.

Are you looking for ways to celebrate Black authors and their books during Black History Month? On Saturday, Feb. 20 from 2-3 p.m., explore why Black representation in books matters, share tips for having courageous conversations about race with young children and discover recommendations of board books, picture books and early chapter books.

Calvert Library has partnered with the Banneker-Douglass Museum, Baltimore Read Aloud and Anne Arundel County Public Library to offer this special program geared toward adults.
SMECO is offering college scholarships for the 2021-2022 school year. Four high school seniors will be awarded $2,500 each. Students are eligible to apply if they live with parents or guardians who are SMECO members. Seniors must be enrolled or plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college, university or trade school. Recycle Coach is a free program that puts local recycling and disposal information at your fingertips. With Recycle Coach, you can:

  • Receive instantaneous answers to recycling questions.
  • Become recycling experts with a comprehensive “What Goes Where?” search tool, including local disposal information, disposal costs and recycling event dates.
  • Help reduce the amount of waste in local landfills by learning how to make mindful and informed recycling decisions. 
Safe Nights provides winter protection for Calvert County’s homeless population by offering shelter in a clean and safe environment. The host shelter provides a warm bed and breakfast, a bag of lunch and dinner. Shelter hours are from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week until Feb. 28. A one-time, in-person registration is required each season and walk-ins will not be accepted. Call Safe Nights of Calvert County at 443-486-8670 for more information.
