Newly Appointed Calvert Director of Health hits Calvert with $2.3m "Funding Match" Rate Increase

CCRCC asks:

  1. What new services does Calvert get for the extra $2.3m?
  2. Why does Calvert pay the 2nd highest rate in MD? (66.63%)
  3. Avg rate for St Mary's, Charles, and Anne Arundel = (46.17%)
  4. Why does Calvert pay approx. $1m less than PG County when we have 1/10th PG County's population? (PG $6.8m vs Calvert $5.8m) (Population (2023) - PG 947k / Calvert 94k)
  5. Why did Calvert's Funding Match increase 410% since FY22? (FY22 = $1.4m / FY25 = $5.8m)
  6. Who failed to request an adjustment to the Local Share Match Requirement in FY25 like we did in FY24?
  7. Wealth Redistribution? Red Counties footing the bill for Blue County DEM politicians (a.k.a. Annapolis)
  • Kudos to Commissioner Hart for pushing back against Annapolis - "Hart, indicating he would not allow state officials to continue to punish Calvert for its affluence, voted opposed to the motion, which passed 4-1."

If approved, the new real property tax rate would take effect for the tax year beginning July 1, 2024.

The county income tax rate is proposed to increase from 3% to 3.2%. This increase will yield $3.6 million in additional revenues. If approved, the new county income tax rate would take effect for the tax year beginning Jan. 1, 2025.
