Late Check-in Guidelines for Final Exams
Students arriving late and riding in car pool must enter through the cafeteria doors on the north side of the building (facing Kings Ridge). Student drivers must enter through the back gates and proceed to the cafeteria. Do not drop your student off at the front doors as they will be directed to the cafeteria side entrance. Students cannot be in the academic halls during final exams.

Monday:
Students who have exempted the first period final exam on Monday, or have class off campus first period, must arrive through the cafeteria doors and remain in the cafeteria until the period is over.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday:
The first exam periods on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (December 20 - 22) are also lunch periods. Your student may arrive late rather than attend during his/her lunch period. If your student is arriving late on one of the half-day final exam days, he/she must arrive by 10:35 am. Students arriving late will remain in the cafeteria until it is time to move to the 10:40 am exam.

First Semester Final Exam Exemptions
Students who requested a final exam exemption should check with their teacher(s) on the status of their exemption. Students who are approved for a final exam exemption must maintain their eligibility throughout the final exam period. Cambridge High School's
Final Exam Exemption Policy  can be found on our web site.

Exemption Periods
Students who have an approved final exam exemption will not be required to be at school during that period. On the half-day exam days, students who have an approved final exam exemption during the second testing period may leave. Students who ride carpool must make arrangements with parents or guardians to be picked up at that time. Students who are riding the bus will report to the cafeteria and remain until buses depart at 12:45 pm.

Missed Final Exams
Students are expected to be present and on time on all testing days. If a student must miss a final exam due to illness, the parent/guardian must call the Attendance Office on the day of the absence in order for the student to take his/her exam on the make-up days. If the Attendance Office is not alerted, the absence will be considered unexcused.

All other missed exams must receive prior approval by the student's grade-level administrator. To obtain approval the parent/guardian should email their administrator by Friday, December 16. Please include the date(s) to be missed, the subject name(s), the teacher name(s), and reason for the missed exam.
Make up exams will take place in the Student Center and will occur on:
  • Thursday, January 5, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
  • Friday, January 6, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Checking Students Out
Students will not be allowed to check out while exams are in progress. Classrooms cannot be disturbed, and students will not be allowed in the academic halls.

Message from Dr. Spurka
CCRPI Results
Last week the Georgia Department of Education released the 2016 College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) for all schools in Georgia. The CCRPI is the way the Georgia Department of Education measures schools and school districts and rates them on a 100-point scale. I am very proud to announce that our 2016 score is a 97, which is a 17.5-point increase from last year.
We are thrilled to have such large gains in one year, and it is a credit to the hard work of our students and teachers and the support of our staff as well as you, our parents!  While we celebrate our success, we still view this as an opportunity to examine our test data to see where we excel and where we still need to make improvements. At the end of the day, the CCRPI is an assessment of how we are doing in relation to our graduation rate, End of Course tests, and other indicators including student attendance.

We hope that you will help us celebrate this accomplishment.  On December 19, we are planning a school-wide celebration for all our students and our teachers and staff. The PTSA has partnered with us to have a celebratory school-wide snack day.  We plan to provide our students, teachers, and staff with ice cream during their lunch periods and hope you will send in a cake, cookies, or ice cream toppings to help us create a special celebration.

As the principal of our school, I am so proud to serve our students, teachers, staff, and this entire community.  I remain committed to the achievement and success of our students and our entire staff who are focused on providing a nurturing learning environment with high expectations.  With your continued support we will continue to grow stronger. Five years ago people asked, "Where is Cambridge?"  Guess what, they don't ask any more!

Sincerely,
Dr. Edward Spurka

Not Returning to Cambridge Next Semester?
Withdrawal process
The normal turnaround time for processing withdrawals is 48 hours, however it is not too soon to let the school know if your student will be withdrawing at the end of this semester. Please contact Ms. Sheridan in the Counseling Office as soon as possible if your student will not be returning next semester so she can start the process.

The Counseling Office will need to know the name of the school your child will be attending, and your new address if you are moving. All textbooks will need to be returned to Ms. Sheridan in the Counseling Office once they are no longer needed for finals. Any media center books or materials would need to be returned to the media center.

To complete the withdrawal process an authorized parent/guardian will need to come into the counseling office to sign the withdrawal form. Once all books have been returned, and the paperwork is completed, you or your student can pick up the withdrawal packet in the counseling office from December 21 through 22, 2016 during the morning hours only.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ms. Sheridan.

Students Taking Online Classes
If you are approved to take an online class for spring semester then it is time to register for the class. Registration is open at Fulton and Georgia Virtual School. Students need to register for the actual course by going to Fulton or Georgia Virtual's website and requesting the course(s). The registration in these courses is not automatic. Once a student requests a course through the website, then the class has to be physically approved or denied by the high school counselor and staff. All courses have a start date so please make sure that you register by December 20, 2016 to ensure that you can start the class on the first day of the semester. Requests are not processed over the winter break.

College Application Process for December and Early January Deadlines
Seniors, if you have a college application deadline that falls over the winter break, December 23, 2016 through January 4, 2016, the deadline to submit your transcript request and senior information sheet was Thursday December 15 to the Counseling Office. If you still have not followed through with your request, please see your counselor and teacher immediately. We do not process transcripts or college recommendations over the holiday break. Do not put yourself in a situation where the deadline is missed. Remember to give yourself and those providing recommendations time to work on your application.

Schedule Corrections
Schedule correction forms for 2nd semester are available in the counseling office. The office is working on submitted schedule corrections. If a schedule correction request is not approved then we will notify the student. Students are to continue following their schedule until they receive a new schedule and/or have received communication from his or her counselor. The last date to submit the schedule correction form is January 11, 2017 3:45 pm. Forms are available in the Counseling Office.
