President's Volunteer Service Award
Congratulations Brittany Sanders
Congratulations Brittany Sanders ! Brittany has received the President's Volunteer Service Award. The award recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.  In addition, Brittany was awarded the Certificate of Excellence which is granted to the top 10% of all Prudential Spirit of Community Award applicants in each state.  
Band Large Group Performance Evaluation
Superior Ratings
This past week the three bands at Cambridge High Scho ol performed at our Large Group Performance Evaluation (band EOCT's).  The bands are evaluated by a panel of three judges on repertoire we have prepared for the past six to seven weeks.  For the first time that Cambridge has taken multiple ensembles to LGPE, all three bands were awarded the highest possible rating from all three stage judges - straight Superior Ratings!

Congratulations to our students for their effort and achievement - and thanks to all of our volunteers, instructors, and understanding staff at Cambridge for all of your support!  

Cambridge Winter Guard
2019 Winter Guard International Atlanta Regional Champion
Congratulations to the Cambridge High School Winter Guard for winning the 2019 Winter Guard International Atlanta Regional Competition! 

The team swept both prelims & finals competitions on Saturday and Sunday this last weekend.  This is quite an accomplishment considering it was their FIRST EVER national region competition performance in our school's existence. 

If you want to learn more about Winter Guard or see our students perform, you can catch them in the exhibition at Alpharetta High School Tuesday, March 26 (time TBA).  
School Governance Council Elections
March 11 through March 18, 2019
Voting for our parent/guardian and teacher positions on the Cambridge High School Governance Council will take place from March 11 until March 18, 2019.  Each parent/guardian of a Cambridge student will receive an e-mail on March 11 with a voting link.  Parents no longer need Home Access codes to vote!  Please review the document link below, which includes the names and candidate statements of our three parent candidates and two teacher candidates.

Our next round table discussion is titled "What's on our reading list?" As practitioners, we are constantly reading and learning to stay abreast of trends and ensure that we are using best practices. Much of what we read is not education-centric and may be of interest to all. In this meeting, we will discuss highlights of recent texts and how our practices both personal and professional have been influenced. 

Participants are encouraged to share their readings as well. My hope is this will spark meaningful conversations and maybe create a book-study or two to hold with parents. Our round table is:

2019 - 2020 Course Registration Continues
Second-Round Course Verification Forms Due Now
Students received their second-round Course Verification Forms on February 26. On this Course Verification Form, students will see a list of their current course requests (not their schedule) for the 2019-2020 school year. These requests include the courses recommended by your student's teachers, as well as the changes and electives requested on the first verification form.

The second-round Course Verification Form is due now. It is crucial that each student completes and returns this form. Completing and returning the second verification form is your student's (and parent/guardian's) agreement to the courses listed on the form. If a student has less than 6.0 credits, electives may be selected for him/her. 

On the second- round, students who plan to take a course(s) through Dual Enrollment will list their course(s), college name, and desired semester. Students are responsible for applying to the college and completing all required steps by March 29, 2019; this is a firm deadline. Information regarding dual enrollment requirements and the process can be found at www.cambridgehscounseling.com.  

In addition, students who plan to take a course(s) online through either Fulton or Georgia Virtual can list the online course, the vendor they plan to use, and whether they will be taking the course on or off campus. Students are responsible for registering for all online courses. Information about virtual course offerings and registration can be found at:

Understanding Teen Depression

We all care about the well being of our youth, so how can we make sure they get the treatment they need?

A new research study found that 49.4% of children (age 0-17) diagnosed with a mental health condition did not receive mental health treatment.  This is where caring adults come in. Together, we can help save teen lives by educating ourselves on mental health conditions and intervening before issues get worse.  Join our free Teen Depression Webinar to help teens get the support they deserve.  

This webinar will feature Rebekah Gibbons, LICSW, an experienced trauma-informed and certified therapist specializing in adolescent mental health. She provides consultation and training to schools and community members, specifically focusing on creating trauma-informed and wellness-focused experiences.

  • communicate effectively with your teen about your concerns
  • get teens the care they need.
FCS Vaping Awareness and Prevention Campaign
Fulton County School System is raising awareness about the risks and dangers around student use of vapes/e-cigarettes. 2018 national survey data concluded that 11.7% of high school students and 3.3% of middle school students have used an e-cigarette in the past 30 days. Our school leaders have reported an uptick of students bringing and using vapes/e-cigarettes on school campuses which constitutes a violation of the Student Code of Conduct but more importantly, the use of these devices puts our students at risk for the known and unknown dangers of vaporized chemicals they emit.

Our schools will be educating parents, students, and communities using three approaches: Awareness/Prevention, Intervention and Response. This week, we will focus on intervention for students. Each school has been provided access to vaping prevention lesson information from the CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) My Breath Program (https://catchinfo.org/modules/e-cigarettes) and will decide how best to share this information with students.

This program has three intended outcomes: 1) Understand that e-cigarettes are addictive, unhealthy and not as popular as believed; 2) Resist their own curiosity and peer pressure to experiment with e-cigarettes; and 3) Encourage friends and peers not to use e-cigarettes. For parents who have students who might be struggling with tobacco addiction, there are two intervention resources we encourage you to review:

Over the next couple of weeks, we will share an additional communication that will contain information on our third approach: response. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to prevent, intervene and respond to this ever-growing safety concern facing our students. At Fulton County Schools, we believe students come first, and their safety is a top priority. Thank you for your support in this effort.
S.H.I.N.E. Club (Students Helping Individuals in Need Everywhere) 
Spring Break Food and Gift Card Drive
For students and families in our school and surrounding elementary schools in need of help during spring break. 

Donations will be accepted March 11 through March 20, 2019, and can be dropped off in Officer Harts Room, 1.433. Donations can include  $10 Grocery Gift Cards or p ackaged goods for breakfast, lunch and dinner  (macaroni and cheese,  pasta noodles, pasta sauce, pancake mix, pancake syrup, peanut butter, jelly, baking mixes, cereal, Pop-Tarts, granola bars, soup, popcorn, rice, fruit cups, pudding, cookies, canned vegetables,  tortilla, canned chicken, canned tuna, Hamburger Helper, any kind meal packaged goods).

Cambridge CATS Accepting Members for 2019
What is CATS?
CATS is a mother and daughter philanthropy service organization that started at Alpharetta High School by families in that community. A group of mothers and daughters opened the Cambridge chapter last year and are we are excited to celebrate our one year anniversary of CATS chapter in the Cambridge community. CATS is not governed or organized by Cambridge High School. 

CATS Mission Statement: We are called to serve, assist, and support our community through philanthropy with our time, talent, and love. In doing so, our goal is to foster mother-daughter relationships as they serve side by side and to develop leadership skills among our members while cultivating a sense of civic responsibility and social awareness.

CATS operates as a non-profit organization through membership exclusively through philanthropic purposes. Membership is open to all girls 9th-12th grade in the Cambridge High School district.

* Our chapter will serve approximately 12 philanthropies in 2019!

FFA Alumni/Booster Scholarship
Due March 27, 2019
To qualify for an FFA Alumni/ Booster Scholarship, you must be a Cambridge High School Senior, an active member of CHS FFA, a Pathway Completer, earned a Chapter Degree, and pursuing a college degree (any institute of higher education).

Applications  must be turned in by March 27, 2019, to Ms. Nerswick or Ms. White.   No late applications will be accepted.  Please submit your application in a sealed envelope labeled "FFA Booster Scholarship Application."

2019 Cambridge Athletic Association Scholarships

The Cambridge Athletic Association ("CAA") is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual College Scholarship program for the Class of 2019.  This year the CAA will again offer two $1,000 scholarships  (one male and one female).  These scholarships are made possible by the generous contributions of CAA Members and Sponsors and are designed to recognize outstanding CHS senior student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and character on the playing field, in the classroom and in the school and/or community.  The scholarship winners will be recognized at Honors Night on April 22, 2019.

Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers are needed on March 15 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm, in the Cafeteria, to pack meals for the Interact Club's annual Rise against Hunger Event! This is always a fun event for all who participate. All ages are welcome to volunteer, parents down to late elementary age students.

Students can obtain two hours of volunteer service for attending and working at this event.

School Safety and Security Plan

As part of our safety and security plan, we are implementing a policy such that all students must wear an ID at all times. IDs should be worn around the neck and visible. By requiring all staff, students, and visitors have some identification on them at all times; we can better ensure that the people in our building, should be in our building. We ask that all parents and guardians help us in this safety measure by ensuring that your student has his/her ID on them each day.

If your student has not received his/her ID, please have them see Ms. Leathers in the Front Office. 
Please note that if a student loses his/her ID, it will cost $5 to replace the ID and if a student loses their ID and lanyard, it will cost $10 to replace all items.
