State Senator Robby Mills

Joins GOP Governor’s Ticket

July 19, 2023

Western Kentucky small businessman Robby Mills was tapped Wednesday by gubernatorial candidate Daniel Cameron as his running mate.

Mills, 56,  is a six-year legislative veteran from Henderson, first elected to the state House in 2016. He served one term in the House before turning to the state Senate in 2018, where he won the seat by fewer than 500 votes. Prior to that, he served as a city commissioner in Henderson.

His family has owned a regional dry-cleaning business for decades.

Mills represents a western Kentucky region that has shifted heavily Republican in recent years. The sprawling region is a key region for the Cameron campaign, which will have to overcome incumbent Gov. Andy Beshear’s expected advantage in the urban cores of Louisville and Lexington.

Cameron, who has served one term as Kentucky’s Attorney General, turned to a lawmaker who shares his decidedly right-leaning philosophy. He praised Mills as a “strong conservative” and “man of faith” who can team with him to promote GOP campaign priorities. Cameron has focused on a host of social issues, including abortion and transgender issues.

Kentucky’s showdown for governor is one of the nation’s most closely watched campaigns this year and could provide insight about voter sentiment heading into 2024 elections to determine control of the White House and Congress. Beshear is seeking a second term in November with incumbent Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman as his running mate.
