BOOKING FOR CAMP 100 HAS OPENED!

We are really excited to invite you to book now for Camp 100, Woodcraft Folk's centenary camp, which is happening between 27th July - 6th August 2025 - that is less than a year away! There is the option to come for the first 3 days, the last 7 days or the full 10 days.

We are asking that districts make one collective booking for all their members. Your booking can be started now and can continue to be updated as you collect information from participants. There is a booking handbook available here.

Already, many Woodcraft Folk districts have started their booking - including some who are planning to attend an international camp for the first time! This is going to be a birthday celebration to remember!

Info and Activity Packs Arriving in the Post!

District contacts have all received a pack through the post this month which includes an info pack, an activity pack, stickers and more! We hope these resources will be helpful and can be shared within your district.

The info pack is intended to answer broader questions that you, or members of your district, may have at this stage of planning to come to camp. There will be a second info pack next year with more specific details, for example with kit lists and a site map.

The activity pack contains ideas for group nights to help your group to prepare for and get excited about Camp 100. In some cases, the activities are also a chance for the Camp 100 team to gather your ideas to make this camp the very best it can be.

Both the info pack and the activity pack can be downloaded via the buttons below.

Camp 100 is volunteer led with many different teams responsible for planning a specific aspect of the camp. Overseeing this process are Jack Brown and Seren Waite.

Jack, an Elfin leader from Banbury district, said he wanted to do this role because "I get excited about the possibility of big camps to bring us together and to act as vehicles to strengthen the movement. I got particularly excited thinking about ways to use the draw of our 100th birthday to reconnect people to the organisation, to reach more children and to become more sustainable in the next hundred years."

Seren, a DF from Lewisham & Greenwich district, is most looking forward to "seeing all of the things that everyone can create and share when together, making the camp their own. Everyone has so many cool ideas, and it’ll be great to see those things become reality. I’m also looking forward to hearing everyone’s stories and favourite moments afterward."

*Spotlight on....decarbonisation!*

In this section of our monthly enewsletter, we are going to be featuring and giving an insight into the different aspects of camp, with the focus being decarbonisation this issue.

Woodcraft Folk have a Decarbonisation Working Group looking at how we can reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with Woodcraft Folk operations, buildings and events which includes Camp 100!

The team have some handy tips on how we can all help to reduce emissions onsite with the majority coming from the use of energy for travel, heat, light and power.

  1. Avoid driving cars whilst at camp
  2. It goes without saying that most Woodies love a campfire, but we can help reduce our emissions by making sure any wood we burn is properly dry and preferably seasoned. Avoid burning green wood and never burn wood that has been treated, such as fencing!
  3. Please use the available recycling facilities that will be at camp. Try to avoid generating the waste in the first place if you can. We have a vision for a whole campsite composting system but this is still at planning stage.
  4. There will be limited access to mains power onsite and there will be solar powder in some villages. If you need electricity, get creative and think how you can make use of solar power -there will be some smaller solar power kits in villages to provide light and phone charging. We will be using energy efficient lights, amplifiers, etc to keep electricity demand as low as possible. Please don't bring items that require lots of energy such as hair dryers, panini makers or electric kettles!
  5. A large source of carbon emissions at camp will be from the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas bottles for cooking and water heating. The best way to reduce these emissions is to use less. For example, use less hot water in the shower and don’t leave gas hot water boilers on all the time. Tips to use less gas include using a kelly kettle or try heat retained cooking.

If you are interested in joining the Decarbonisation Working Group, contact Debs at deborah.mccahon@woodcraft.org.uk. Please also do share with us any suggions you think of to help decarbonise our events. Please talk to your Village Co-ordinators, the Power Station Volunteers or any of the Camp 100 Committee.

As we near the year countdown until camp, we are sharing lots of fun activities for our groups to get them into the camp spirit!

One fun way to mark Camp 100, Woodcraft Folk's centenary camp is to try completing our 100 100s challenge that will have your group trying a range of challenges from making a collage out of 100 things to writing a manifesto of 100 changes for the next 100 years.

You can find the full list of 100 100s in the camp Activity Pack accessed via the button above. Goodl uck!

Camp 100 enewsletters will be sent monthly, so if you have something you would like to submit for the 'Camp call out' section, please let us know by sending an email to lauren.penny@woodcraft.org.uk within the next few weeks providing any contact details people can reach you on and what you are wanting to ask for.

Until next time!
