Summer's coming and it won't be long!

February, 2025

Summer is just a few months away, and that means camp is almost here! As you start counting down the days, remember that camp is all about adventure, new friendships, and unforgettable memories. Whether it’s your first summer or you’re a returning camper, embracing the excitement and stepping out of your comfort zone will make this experience truly special. We understand that both campers and their families may feel anxious about the upcoming camp experience. Rest assured, our dedicated staff is trained to support campers through every step, ensuring a safe and engaging environment. With a variety of exciting activities and a welcoming community, we’re committed to making this summer an unforgettable adventure for everyone involved. Camp is more than just a place for your kids, it's a feeling of belonging, laughter around the campfire, and the thrill of trying something new. So get ready to unplug, dive into the fun, and soak up every moment. We can’t wait to welcome you for another summer of magic, growth, and endless adventure!

Our staff had their first staff meeting in December. It was exciting and inspiring to see the enthusiasm. Between now and June we will have lots of training and planning sessions. A goal of our staff team this year is to honour the history of our Camp Big Canoe programs while continually looking for small ways to improve in everything we do.

Friends are Friends Forever...

It’s been such a joy to hear stories from camp alumni of the friendships they formed at camp and how they have treasured them into adulthood. We do want to remind parents and guardians that there is a “Bring a Friend” to camp discount - if you have a friend register have them let Maddie (admin@campbigcanoe.ca) know so she can apply the discount to camp.

Speaking of registrations - don’t miss out if you are looking to sign up for the Leaders in Training (LIT) or Outdoor Skills (OS) programs. We are close to full! Our LIT and OS leaders have met a number of times for planning. We’re incredibly proud of these programs and are looking forward to this year’s sessions.

New Program: Lego Robotics

This summer we are planning on a Lego Robotics camp. Running Sunday, July 6 to Friday, July 11 campers will be in a traditional camp unit. Each day they will participate in one to two Lego Robotics sessions. In addition they will get to drive a three foot tall robot (that can extend to 8 feet!) from the award winning Hoya Robotics team. This session is open for 10 to 11 year olds. If you have campers in a different age group that are interested please reach out to director Ian (director@campbigcanoe.ca) as there is the possibility of adding an additional setting.

Tuck Shop

When I was a camper each unit would take a walking trip once a session to Mr. Allen’s store. Enjoying an ice cold pop on a hot summer day left a lasting impression. Once the camp closed Camp Big Canoe started offering a tuck shop for campers.

I’m interested in your feedback on what kind of experience we should offer with regards to a camp store. Please fill out our form to give us your thoughts.

How you can help Camp Big Canoe

When asking staff about what Camp Big Canoe means to them they consistently talk about the community and how everyone helps each other. Our programs are better when we paddle together! Here are some ways we would love your help!

  • Build your Bunk - we are so excited to revitalize our tents and provide a great wilderness experience.
  • Wishlist - There are so many little things that are used each day that add up. Please help us share our current wishlist.
  • Donations - Whether it is helping a family send their child to camp for the first time, paying for a Big Canoe for Big Canoe or helping reduce our costs, every dollar helps.
  • Woodworking - There are a number of woodworking projects we are planning on, we just need some people and materials to make them a reality!

"Camp is a place where friends are made, memories are created, and dreams take flight."
