BURN CAMP NEWS AND UPDATES
|
|
We were incredibly excited to reboot our Family Camp program after a two year hiatus due to COVID-19. This June we hosted six families at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO, from Saturday, June 18th – Wednesday, June 22nd. Each year Family Camp is built around a theme. This year's theme, “Be your own kind of Beautiful," was created around butterflies and their life cycle. The programming was built to help our smallest campers, siblings, burn survivors, and parents learn new skills, establish goals for themselves, and feel refreshed and renewed. Family Camp consists of groups for parents, school-aged children, and activities for the youngest of the group. Families participated in activities at the YMCA such as swimming and mini-golf, enjoyed time with the Estes Park Fire, spent an evening at McGregor Ranch, and so much more! Kids of all ages, and their parents, made lasting friendship. On the final day of camp, butterflies were released by the families. It was a moment of celebration watching these beautiful creatures fly out into nature.

The 2022 Courage Classic Is This Weekend!
|
|
Our Courage Classic fundraising team is excited to support the Burn Camps Program! S’more Courage is a group of dedicated volunteers raising money by hitting the road for two days of cycling over picturesque Rocky Mountain passes. This year’s tour has something for everyone with seven route options from virtual to 81 miles through the beautiful Rocky Mountains, starting and ending in Copper Mountain. Whether you ride, fundraise, donate, volunteer, or sponsor the Courage Classic, your support helps provide lifesaving care for children at the region’s only nonprofit pediatric hospital.

We are incredibly excited to get back to continue our in-person summer camp at Cheley Colorado Camps in Estes Park, CO. Summer Burn Camp will run from Monday, August 15th through Sunday, August 21st. While camp will continue to be modified as needed to keep campers and staff safe, we know kids need camp now more than ever and can’t wait to welcome campers in August!
We’ve been hard at work planning for in-person camp this summer. Our dedicated team of professional staff are committed to campers and rest assured that we will provide the best opportunities available to us to keep everyone safe during these unprecedented times. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19, we cannot allow visitors into camp again this year and community members will be unable to attend Play Day.

Summer Camp | August 15 – 21, 2022 | Cheley Colorado Camps | Estes Park
We met with Cheley Colorado Camps last month and we’re planning for in-person camp this summer. The safety and well-being of our campers, their families, our volunteers, and our staff, is of the utmost importance to us. We are taking all possible and appropriate measures to ensure everyone has a safe experience at all our camp programs.
Young Adult Retreat | January 2023 | Evergreen/Conifer
The Young Adult Retreat is designed to address the specific issues facing young adult burn survivors between the ages of 18-25. The program includes recreational activities and various workshops to address topics including relationships, body image, goal setting and developing a personal mission statement. In an emotionally safe and supportive environment, participants share experiences, thoughts, and feelings which creates opportunity for growth and a support network of peer burn survivors.
Winter Camp | February 2023 | Steamboat Resort | Steamboat Springs
Older campers 13-18 years of age who have shown an interest in participating in camp beyond just the summer, are given the opportunity to attend Winter Burn Camp held in Steamboat Springs, CO. Campers are challenged to translate their experiences on the slopes into real-life lessons to take back with them after the skis and boards have been returned. As a reminder, Winter Camp will now take place in February annually.
