BURN CAMP NEWS AND UPDATES

2024 Winter Camp Wrap Up

Winter camp 2024 was a huge success! This was our 29th year, and we welcomed 35 campers and 15 staff which marks our biggest camp ever! We had a fantastic week in Steamboat. The campers enjoyed fresh snow, received incredible instruction from the Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School, shared plenty of laughs with friends, and created priceless memories. We hope that your child has shared with you some of the amazing moments from the week.

Our evenings were spent working on an introspective program which offered both campers and counselors the opportunity to learn more about themselves. Our theme was entitled ELEVATE. We outlined some opportunities to ELEVATE their personal growth during their week at camp and beyond. Examples of these included: “have a greater appreciation for each day,” “utilize my potential,” and “value the people around me.” We returned to these themes each evening through a variety of activities including small group discussions, group activities, journaling and more. On the last night, we challenged campers to declare one thing to help elevate their life experience, it was a powerful ending to an amazing week.

BCER Fire Hose Race Raises $30,000!

The 17th annual Fire Hose Race was held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Arapahoe Basin. Hosted by BCER, corporations and fire departments from across Colorado team up to participate in a unique slalom-style event. Teams of five race down a 15-gate slalom course while holding on to 50 feet of fire hose. You can't miss them - all participants must dress in bunker gear including a firefighter jacket and helmet! This year’s event raised an amazing $30,000 for the Burn Camps Program. We are incredibly thankful to BCER for once again hosting the event and to all the sponsors and participants. This donation brings their total giving to over $250,000!

Join Us For The 2024 Courage Classic

We’re gearing up for Children’s Hospital Colorado’s largest single fundraising event of the year—the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour! Started in 2020, Team S'more Courage, is excited to support the Children's Hospital Colorado Burn Camps Program! We are a group of dedicated volunteers raising money by hitting the road for two days of cycling over picturesque Rocky Mountain passes. This year’s tour has something for everyone with three fully supported cycling routes each day through the beautiful Rocky Mountains, starting and ending in Copper Mountain.

The Courage Classic returns to Copper Mountain for a two-day ride, July 20-21, 2024. Our goal is to raise $50,000 in 2024. Whether you ride, fundraise, donate, volunteer, or sponsor the Courage Classic, your support will help burn survivors on their journey to recovery.

2024 Program Updates

Family Camp | June 9 – 13, 2024 | YMCA of the Rockies | Estes Park

Recovering from a burn injury often goes beyond the burn and includes emotional healing for parents and siblings as well. Family Camp provides an opportunity for families to share their stories and live together in a supported environment while learning and growing with each other. We are excited to kick off our 23rd year of this incredible program!

Summer Camp | August 12 – 18, 2024 | Cheley Colorado Camps | Estes Park

Children’s Hospital Colorado partners with Cheley Colorado Camps in Estes Park, Colorado for this week-long summer camp adventure for children nationwide between the ages of 8-18. By providing an enriched camp experience, anchored in the Cheley philosophy of fostering genuine character and belief in the ability of youth to act spontaneously in the right, the program creates the opportunity for burn survivors to share their stories and push themselves beyond what they thought was possible.
