Coming up just around the corner on Sunday January 9th from 12-2 is Gilboa's AGM (Annual General Meeting)! We will no longer be meeting in person, but look forward to gathering virtually on Zoom: Register here (join link is emailed automatically after registration.)

Updates in the Movement

HDCA Mifgash (convening): Each summer, a couple machanot host guests from the other HDNA camps to learn from each other and share best practices. This year due to COVID, we gathered virtually post-summer, where we heard amazing updates from each machaneh and shared challenges we will be working on together moving forward.

Introductions

Gilboa is (officially) welcoming Alison Ormsby (Assistant Director: Outreach and Recruitment) and Yahli Livni (Assistant Director: Programs) to the year-round team!

Alison grew up going to Habonim Dror Camp Galil in Pennyslvania and is thrilled to join the Gilboa family! She worked Summer 2021 at Galil as the communications director and has a long-time soft spot for Gilboa's beauty. Since MBI she's daydreamed about coming to work at Gilboa, and is excited to meet you all!

Although Yahli's role most recently was Rosh Machaneh 2020, he's been going to Gilboa since 2008 and has been involved in a variety of ways over the years! Starting in high school and throughout college, Yahli has been a committed leader in the eizor (year-round activities) and spent three summers on the mazkirut (senior leadership.) He is excited to now join the year-round team!

FALL/WINTER 2021 GILBOA HIGHLIGHTS:

Community Partnerships

We had a blast doing a scavenger hunt and hike with Adat Chaverim!

We had an amazing time at TBI Highland Park's Hannukah party running a crafts table, and will be visiting again January 23rd!

Visiting the SIJCC's 5th grade class was a blast and we can't wait for next week's winter break day camp at the SIJCC.

Gilboa Kenim & Programs

Tzedek Seminar & Work Weekend: In October, we brought together Gilboa teens, tzevet, and volunteers for a fun weekend of closing up camp for the winter. We had Kaela and Jenna from Mazkirut Artzit (HDCA central office) join us. It was a great opportunity to reconnect and strengthen Gilboa's connection to HDNA.

Each of the three Gilboa kenim (local chapters) had picnic meetups during the fall semester (San Francisco, San Diego and LA!)

Tzedek, Gilboa's teen program, has chosen housing and homelessness for their issue to focus on this year. Look out for new opportunity to get involved as this spring they'll be hard at work on crafting new ways to bring the community into action!

"What Gilboa Means to Me..."

Hi, I am Lilah. I am 13 years old, Ethiopian, and have gone to camp for 3 summers. Camp Gilboa matters to me because it is my Jewish friendship circle. It is a place where I belong. As a camper, I have lots of crazy memories and each new year seems to be better than the last. What I miss most during the year is the way we come together during Havdalah at camp. It is our time to be thankful for each other. I love that feeling of being held by my friends. That’s why I am becoming a bat mitzvah at camp this summer. So, if you are coming to camp during first session…well, you are invited! I look forward to celebrating with you, making memories, and lying on the ground and staring at the stars during Havdalah. Thanks to the counselors and Elana for making Gilboa special.

4. Come to FAMILY CAMP / WORK WEEKEND.

Our 4th annual family camp will take place May 21-22, 2022 - join us with kids of all ages, or join the volunteer work crew!
