Camp Kudzu Celebrates Leadership

The Camp Kudzu 10th Annual Benefit Luncheon will be held November 14, 2017 at a private country club in Buckhead.  Over the course of nine years, the luncheon has raised $976,000 to support Fund-a-Camper and provide program scholarships to make sure every child in Georgia living with type 1 diabetes has access to educational and empowering camp programs. For more information on registration or to donate online, please click here.

This year the Benefit Luncheon will pay tribute to Alexandra Allen. Alex has played a vital role in the success of Camp Kudzu as a founder, board member, parent, and most recently serving as Executive Director for 10 years. With Alex's retirement in 2017, we look forward to celebrating her many contributions and dedication to Camp Kudzu.

The Benefit Luncheon will also recognize six of our Camp Kudzu Alumni. These individuals will be the inaugural class of Camp Kudzu Ambassadors. The Ambassador program aims to represent our alumni who have grown up attending camp programs and remain involved with Camp Kudzu, the type 1 community, as well as excel in their personal lives and professional goals. These six individuals were chosen from hundreds of our alumni because of their stellar representation of Camp Kudzu's effectiveness. They are all well-rounded young professionals who continue to impact the diabetes community and give back their time each summer to children living with Type 1 Diabetes through the programs offered by Camp Kudzu. Kaki Bennett, Jamie Cross, Anna Rambo, Katie Rhea, Kelsey Rogowski, and Andrew Sturniolo are all wonderful examples of what camp strives to instill in campers each and every year.  We are excited about this inaugural group of individuals, and look forward to continuing to recognize former campers who are lighting the way for the future generations of Camp Kudzu.

Medical Corner:   Cauliflower Crust Mini Pizza Recipe
School is back in session, you're likely getting back into the swing of a regular routine. With that regular routine likely brings afternoon battles of what to eat after school, when your kitchen is bombarded with kids who are already starving for dinner. "I'm hungry" seems to be a constantly used phrase. Even worse--have teen boys? You're surely dealing with bottomless pits for stomachs and the struggle to keep anything stocked in the pantry for more than 24-hours.
The solution to your problem is just this--a camp recipe that was ever-popular last summer. Made in cooking class, this cauliflower-crust pizza is low carb and gluten free for children with celiac disease. A delicious blood sugar-friendly pizza minus the "pizza effect" on blood sugars. It doesn't get much better than this!
