Lurecrest friends and family,
As we near the end of 2024, with registration right around the corner, the impacts of Hurricane Helene in our community have brought up some important questions which we want to try our best to answer.
The three most frequently asked questions over the past few weeks are:
- Is Camp Lurecrest okay?
- Is camp still happening this summer?
- Will the lake activities be available during summer 2025?
Question: Is Camp Lurecrest okay?
Answer: Yes! We are grateful that our campus did not sustain severe damage from Hurricane Helene. As you may have seen on Camp's social media channels, the tent was taken out by Helene's heavy winds. We are excited to announce that we are planning to build a pavilion where the tent was previously located. This structure will allow us to expand current programming, provide an excellent space for rainy day activities, and will include additional bathrooms at the top of camp.
Question: Is camp still happening this summer?
Answer: Yes! We are happy to say that camp will definitely be happening this summer. Registration for returning families opens at 7PM on January 15th, and registration for new families opens at 6:30AM on January 16th.
Question: Will the lake activities be available during summer 2025?
Answer: The Army Corp of Engineers has already taken over 500 dump truck loads of debris out the lake. They are one week away from getting all of the debris off the surface of the water. The next step is to lower the water level and begin pulling out the sediment so the Rocky Broad can flow back into the lake. The timeline of this phase is unclear at this time, which means there is a chance the lake may not be accessible this summer. As a result, the Camp Lurecrest team is excited to be adding new activities for our campers to enjoy.
