May, 2017

Wow, we can't believe that summer is right around the corner! Our leadership staff arrive later this week for the start of staff training, and campers are on their way to session 1 in less than a month! We hope your pre-summer activities are as fun as ours are.

Enclosed in this newsletter is a brief update about happenings at Starfish! We're hiring our last few positions for this summer's staff team (do you know someone looking for a job?), filling our last few camper spaces (camp info is here), finalizing two new buildings on camp, getting our rubber duckies ready for adoption, and so much more! Now's a great time to get involved with Starfish, and we hope you will! Please reach out to us online or by phone (603-899-9590)...we'd love to say "hi!"
Smiles from the Campfire,

Duck Adoptions are Open!
The Derby is the easiest race you'll ever be in! Picture tons of rubber duckies racing towards the finish line while you cheer on your ducks from the sideline (...or from your computer or mobile device while hanging out at home in your PJ's). Check out pictures and video here!

Everyone who adopts at least 1 duck is invited to join  us for the Derby Cookout & Carnival on Saturday, July 18 at camp in Rindge! We hope you'll join us for this fun-filled day.

See just how much good you can do in the world with a few clicks and a few dollars. (Did we mention the PRIZES? The first place duck takes home a quacktastic $250! There are prizes for 2nd & 3rd Place, the Starfish Anniversary Duck (Duck #18 this year!) and the Daffy - the very last duck to cross the finish line.

Welcome Back, Beth!
We're excited to welcome back Beth McCollum, MA, LPC, NCC for her 5th year at camp (and her first since 2011, when she was our Director of Village Life)! Beth has been a volunteer and visiting staff trainer over the past several summers while in her full time job she ran a department of the Wake Forest University student counseling service. Now, she's joining our year-round team as an interim Director of Camper and Staff Services to provide support to Starfish participants while the organization searches for an additional Camp Director to join our year-round team in 2018. This summer, Beth will be working with our incoming team of over 110 seasonal staff, helping supervise and support them as they take care of over 300 campers during 10 weeks of programming! She will also be supporting our campers and their families, as well as overseeing our staff Internship and Fellowship programs. To send Beth a "welcome back" message, click here.
Thank You, Doug!
We wish our 2016 interim Camp Director Doug Sutherland all the best as he embarks on new adventures! We will miss his wonderful campfire stories, sense of humor and team spirit. We know he will do great work in his future endeavors!

Program Spotlight
Camp Enrollment is Happening Now!
While many of our 2017 programs are full, we still have space in a few of them, so if you've been thinking about applying to camp, don't miss out on Summer 2017! We have space in Session 1 - a two-week overnight camp program; a few weeks of Day Camp, in Sibling Camp, and in Cove, our first-time camp for children ages 6-10.  If you know a child with emotional, behavioral, social or learning challenges who could benefit from structured, safe, nurturing program with an unique 1:1 staff-to-camper ratio, encourage them to learn more about opportunities for a life-changing summer!
Sibling Camp Still Has a Few Spaces Left!
As the brother or sister of a Starfish camper, siblings might sometimes feel left out or different themselves. Making friends who can relate to that helps siblings to feel less "alone" or different from their peers. It's comforting for them to see firsthand that they aren't the only kid who has to have playdates outside their own home or who participates in family therapy sessions to help their brother or sister. Our new Sibling Camp presents the perfect opportunity for children to make connections and friendships with others who "just get it."
We're Booking Retreats for Fall & Winter 2017 & Spring 2018!

Did you know that Camp Starfish is not only an amazing safe haven for children during the summer but also a versatile and unique location to hold group events?
Check out our Retreats Brochure here!
Youth groups, college associations, family retreats, nonprofits, religious groups, and more all love the rustic, peaceful environment that our Conference and Retreat Center offers, while also appreciating the professional event planning and support services that we provide.  Our new Year-Round building will be opening in June which opens up whole new vistas of opportunity for you and your group!
Find out why Fitchburg State University, MCPHS, Applewild School, Miss Porter School, BU, and so many more guests think Starfish is the place for them! Interested in conducting your next staff retreat, leadership event or celebration at Camp Starfish? Contact us today or check out options online
