Local Elections Campaign Finance Amendments 
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Selina Robinson has introduced legislative amendments to the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act. The legislation would ban corporate and union donations, put limits on individual contributions and ban out-of-province donations at the local level. Read More 
Federal Abandoned Vessels Legislation Introduced
On October 30, the federal government introduced legislation to address wrecked, abandoned or hazardous vessels in Canadian waters. The introduction of the legislation falls on the one-year anniversary of the federal government's $1.5 billion Ocean Protection Plan. Read More
National Abandoned Vessels Consultation 
Local governments are invited to participate in discussions on the National Strategy to Address Abandoned and Wrecked Vessels. Consultations will take place in Victoria on November 27, and Vancouver on November 29.  Register by November 17, 2017 and indicate which session you would like to attend.
Poverty Reduction Forum Underway
Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson has announced the creation of an Advisory Forum on Poverty Reduction. The Forum will support the development of a provincial poverty reduction strategy. UBCM Past President Murry Krause has been appointed as one of the Forum members. Read More 
Electronic Ticketing Legislation Introduced 
The provincial government has introduced amendments to the Offence Act that will pave the way for electronic roadside ticketing (eTicketing) in British Columbia. The Province expects no local government will incur a negative fiscal impact in any fiscal year as a result of this policy shift. Read More
