Residency Campaign        Update

In our 100% supported in 100 days campaign, we have 86 days left. We have  4 new monthly supporters and we are almost 1/3 of the way there to meet our goal so we can get our Panamanian residency visa. Wednesday, I was all worried and praying, wondering how on earth God would provide all this money, when we get an email from missionaries telling us they were going to join our monthly support team.

REALLY!?! MISSIONARIES!?! Would you believe we have 3 or 4 missionaries that give to us month after month? Lord, may I be this faithful!  Would you prayerfully consider giving during this Thanksgiving season.

Your investment is not just in us,The Schmidt Family. We are just a normal everyday family following Jesus on the crazy life long journey. Your financial investment filters through us to Latinos so we are able to live here among the people, literally day by day eating with them, having them in our home until crazy hours of the night, ministering to one another and those that are around us;  training students to go into all the world as equipped disciples; extending mercy to the poor and orphans; equipping and encouraging churches and church leaders; and leading our YWAM staff in Bible Study.

Jonathan In Uganda

Many of you may know, Jonathan serves as a missionary in Uganda. He has been there for nearly 18 months. This past week, he became very ill. He is much better, just a tad sick still -even now as I write this-  but yet again I found myself having to renew my mind...purposefully reminding myself of God's faithfulness to us in every aspect of our missions, financial, hardships in culture, relationships.... And the list goes on.

Jonathan will be in the US to spend Christmas with his brothers and grandmother. Jonathan would love to connect with as many as you as possible to share about the next missionary season in his life. Hook up with him via Facebook. You can give to him too through STLM: mark that your giving is for Jonathan.

Reflections of the Heart

When each of my kids were young, I would pick a song to sing over them as babies. With Tommy,  I was a new Christian and I sang the only song I knew from my childhood camp days, Kumbayah My Lord - come by here. Then when Simon Peter was a baby, I sang over him, Spirit of the Living God Fall  Afresh on Me, but I would substitute Simon in the place of the word 'me'. Then for years surrounding Jonathan's birth, before, during and even now, I sing over him, Great is Thy Faithfulness.

We went into missions when Jonathan was 20 days old. We had sold or given away everything and moved to the international office of Mercy Ships. We had enough to live on for three months. I remember once we got down to $17, just enough to send out newsletters but would we do that knowing we would have no money to buy food or diapers. Seriously, I'm not sure how God got us to the place of trusting him, but  we bought those stamps for the old fashion newsletters and when we went to the post office to mail them there was a check in the mail that was much more then what we had just spent on stamps. It still blows my mind how God does that stuff! This past July was 19 years that we walked this faith walk of finances. Even during the 5 years Tom received a salary as an associate pastor, some of you continued to give (and still do) to our family and ministry.

Today, I find myself again singing from chapter 3 of Lamentations:

Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever will be.

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
