On the 2020 general election ballot, City of Charlotte voters have the opportunity to approve a $197.2 million bond referenda package that will fund construction and revitalization of transportation corridors including streets and sidewalks, more affordable housing, and improvements to neighborhoods in established and emerging high-growth areas. At end end of your ballot, please vote YES ✅ for all three bonds: $102.7 million for streets, $50 million for housing and $44.5 million for neighborhoods.

Streets Project Spotlight: Congestion Mitigation

We've all been there – sitting in traffic for what seems like hours. Charlotte has seen significant population growth over the years and that adds more stress on the city's transportation network in the form of congestion. Good news! By voting YES for the bonds, you can help fund congestion mitigation in three booming areas of the city: South Charlotte, Steele Creek and University City.

Included in the streets bond is approximately $7.6 million for projects including adding turn lanes at intersections, extending existing lanes or making connections to enhance the street grid.

Masked Up for City Bonds 😷

Campaigning during this unprecedented year looks a bit different than before. We are all about keeping our volunteers and committee members safe as we spread the word (not COVID) about the bonds on the ballot. Remember, make sure to get to the end of your ballot and vote YES to streets, housing and neighborhoods!

Q: Some of the roads, intersections and neighborhoods that are getting bond monies seem fine the way they are. Why do we need to renovate or improve them?

A: Needed repairs may not be apparent to the untrained eye. City engineers monitor our infrastructure carefully and have detailed, long-range plans for maintenance and improvement. Whether a private residence or a city street, the process is ongoing and becomes more expensive if not properly and diligently managed.
