A Word from Coach Carson Long

Dear Hawks Family:

Another season is upon us and we are excited for all that is in store for Huntingdon Athletics. I am thankful for the opportunity to be the next Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Huntingdon College. My wife, Bryce, and I are excited to immerse ourselves in the Montgomery community, build lasting relationships, and become a part of what makes Huntingdon so special.

Campaign for Champions is a month-long effort during September to support Huntingdon's individual athletic programs as we develop our student-athletes and pursue the next level of excellence.

I know I am new to Huntingdon, and I am still getting to know many of our alumni, parents, and supporters, but that is also what makes this exciting. I truly believe this can be our biggest year yet.  For us, I want to attack this campaign the same way we will attack everything in our basketball program—with a mindset of being the Standard of Excellence in Division III Basketball.

Our vision for Huntingdon Basketball is simple:

To be the standard of excellence in Division III basketball.

This isn't simply about the result, the ranking, or how many games we win. It is about being the best version of ourselves each and every day. Our mission as a coaching staff is to recruit high-character young men and empower them to maximize their talents in order to lead lives of meaning and purpose. Of course, we want to win basketball games, compete for championships and play meaningful games in March. But we also know that you cannot build a championship program on wins alone. We want to build something that supports our players, coaches, and culture every single day.

That is where your support becomes so important. Huntingdon does an incredible job of providing our student-athletes with an elite educational and athletic experience. As a coaching staff, however, we want to continue to find ways to do more. We do not want to make excuses for why we cannot get something done. We want to find solutions. We will have two initiatives this year:

  1. To purchase Teamworks and Teamworks recruiting software, a platform that would help us better organize our program, communicate with our players, and manage the day-to-day operations of Huntingdon Basketball.
  2. To enhance the locker room, over the years the locker room has seen major improvements and we love our space. We want to continue to make that an area that the players are able to enjoy before and after practice. Whether it be a new gaming system, furniture or resources to keep drinks and snacks to fuel our players throughout the season.

The goal of our Campaign for Champions is simple:

To give our student-athletes an experience they have not had before.

We are challenging ourselves with a difficult non-conference schedule to prepare us for conference play. We believe we have an opportunity to do some special things this season, but our goal is bigger than just this year. We want to build a program that is still competing for championships years from now. Huntingdon is a special place, it is becoming more and more recognized as a premier pre-professional college in the South.

We think that our vision as a basketball program aligns right with how the college is trending. Let's attack this year together. Let's build something that lasts. Let's be the Standard of Excellence. Thank you for believing in Huntingdon Basketball and investing in our student-athletes.

Go Hawks!

Sincerely,

Carson Long
