History with a Twist
CREC-6270
Mar 5 - Mar 19
Sat, 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Fee $30

Did you know that Strathcona Park has quite a surprising history, and that it wasn’t always envisioned as a wilderness park, but many eyed the region for the minerals and their value. It took public protest to see that it would be protected. Did you know that in the late 1800s, Nootka Sound was being fought over by the British and the Spanish, and that this culminated in a crisis that almost lead to war? And that our coast was protected during World War II by boats and men from the navy’s Fisherman’s Reserve, the Army and the Air Force? If you did not know this and would like to explore these topics more fully, please register to join local historian and author, Catherine Gilbert, to learn more about these fascinating topics.
