Hello earthlings! Every Friday, we are delivering new opportunities to participate in camp programming via our website and social media. Your family will have new and exciting options to engage in activities, crafts, cabin chat conversations, fun resources, and more to help support you through this unprecedented time.

While we know this doesn’t replace the joy of coming to camp, we hope it provides some respite and happiness to your family. We would LOVE to hear from YOU about what you would like to see included. Are there certain camp games you want to share with your family? Skits you would like to see online? Staff you want to hear from? We want to hear all about it! Please send your ideas to  info@campkorey.org.

This week’s theme is "Planet Earth". We here at Camp Korey love the opportunity to spend time with you all here at camp or wherever you may be in this moment! This week we will give you opportunities to celebrate our amazing and beautiful planet!

Hey Campers and your amazing caregivers! We hope everyone is having a fantastic day today! We have a couple of activities for you in this week’s edition of Guardians of our Galaxy. We wanted to make sure to take a few moments to truly marvel at the wonders that are planet earth.
Outdoor Meditation
Create a small meditation space. Something that will bring you joy, an opportunity to breathe in some fresh air and experience the world around you. All of our routines and daily lives that turned our own personal worlds upside down. This is the opportunity to just be present in your world and enjoy all it has to offer. Meditation can be fun for all ages! If you need a little inspiration to get you started check out this nature and butterfly inspired meditation video and encourage your campers to take a minute for reflection.

Sit outside, or by an open window and try to identify:
5 noises you hear
4 things you can see
3 things you can smell
2 things you can feel
1 thing you can taste

Journaling
Journaling is a great tool for reflection. Check out some of the journal prompts below that help us celebrate Earth Day!
Happy Little Trees
I am not sure if there is someone more in tuned to nature and finding joy in the small things as famous painter Bob Ross. He is known not only for his amazing hair, but for teaching painting in the “Joy of Painting”.
On Bob Ross’s YouTube page , you can find all 31 seasons of his show, encompassing a total of 403 roughly 30-minute episodes. For the uninitiated: Each episode features Bob Ross painting a different scene while he goes over the techniques and materials you need to paint along. Most of his work features nature scenes like a walk in the woods or a view from a creek .
Not only are Ross's videos a great way to pass the time when you’ve run out of options on Netflix, but you could, in theory, create 403 paintings right along with him. Talk about new decor—or a stockpile of presents for your loved ones (for their birthdays, holidays, and every other foreseeable gift-giving occasion).
Not to mention, listening to Bob Ross as he paints a picture is extremely therapeutic. If you’re highly anxious or just overall exhausted, his videos can offer you a calming effect that’s as reliable as a weighted blanket.
If you could travel anywhere...
Dreaming about the places, cultures, and people we hope to meet someday is thing we all do. Which one of these destintations would you choose to travel to for an all expenses paid vacation?
If I could travel anywhere I would go:
On an Alaskan Cruise
To the beach in the Bahamas
Trekking in Nepal
Disneyland
Camp Korey
Visit Europe
Cabin Chat is a reflective activity that every camper participates in during summer camp programs. Campers are asked questions and encouraged to share with their new friends. We encourage you to host a Cabin Chat with your family!
  1. Identify a talking object. Whoever has the talking object is the only one sharing at that moment. Fun idea for this week is to find a favorite furry friend!
  2. Don’t laugh unless it's meant to be funny.
  3. What happens in Cabin Chat stays in Cabin Chat. This is a space where everyone should feel safe to share!
  4. Challenge by Choice. Everyone has the options to choose to share, or choose to pass on a question.
1. What is your favorite element? Earth, wind, water, or fire?
2.    What is one way you can engage with nature in your own backyard?
3.    What is your favorite activity to do outside?
A favorite activity for our Camp Korey community is getting crafty with some arts and crafts projects! Join us as we get artsy and show our superpowers!

  • Recycled Wind Chimes- What better way can we show that we love planet earth than through recycling and upcycling things to create something else! There are A LOT of ways that you can do that and here are a few to try out: Tin Can Mobile, Natural Wind Chime, and Recycled Swirl Chime.  Please get creative and see what you can come up with right from your backyard or recycle bin.
  • Plant Hanger from an old t-shirt- Everyone has an old t-shirt lying around. One that you spilled something on and it stained, or you outgrew it, or you just wore it too much that now it has a few holes in it. Perfect! Instead of throwing it away, repurpose it into something really cool! A plant hanger! Check out how here!
  •  Make your own Marble Run – What is more fun than seeing how gravity and creativity combine to create epic fun! Watch this video and pick which marble you think will win. Now that you see just how fun it an be, go make your own! If you have a yard and can make one in the dirt, go for it. If you want to make one for indoor use, find some recycled items and get to it! We would love to see what you come up with! Before you watch...who do you think is the winner?

Who do you think will win?
The BLUE marble
The RED marble

Learn how you can make your own marble run at home from our friend Rose!

Zero Food Waste Challenge: As we think about how awesome our planet is and how we have a responsibility to be the best stewards of our planet have you ever challenged yourself and your family to a zero food waste challenge?

Basically what we are doing is trying to eat EVERYTHING on our plate. Yes...even those weird lima beans that everyone is a little skepical about and even the crust on our grilled cheese sandwich...

Choose the challenge that works best for you and your family and see what happens!

Challenge 1:
Choose a meal and see if everyone in your family can eat everything on their plate! Zero food waste!

Challenge 2:
Choose a day and see if everyone in your family can eat everything on their plates during every meal! Zero food waste

Challenge 3:
Measure your food waste from a whole week and see how well you did! What a great way to take care of our earth and see what your families impact is!
One of the best ways to connect with each other is over food and sharing a meal together! Have fun creating this earthy snack together!
