Cal State LA to host campus day celebration

Cal State LA will host the “We Are LA” Campus Day Celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 3 to 7 p.m., as part of the University Convocation and Investiture festivities. The event will feature food trucks, live music, a car show, student art exhibit, games, and student organization showcases across key campus locations. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the celebration.

Join the University Convocation and Investiture on Aug. 18

The Cal State LA community is invited to the University Convocation and Investiture of Dr. Berenecea Johnson Eanes on Monday, Aug. 18. The event will mark the start of the 2025-26 academic year and celebrate Eanes as the university’s ninth president. The event will also honor this year’s outstanding faculty award recipients. Registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 8, by 5 p.m. Please register online to attend the Convocation and Investiture ceremony. For other investiture-related events, please visit the official website.

Weeks of Welcome offer events to engage and connect

Cal State LA’s Weeks of Welcome will feature a variety of events designed to help students get involved, build community, and explore campus resources. One of the highlights is a mixer for Native American and Indigenous students, staff, and faculty on Monday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m., in the University-Student Union Alhambra Room. Vote for Cal State LA’s submission for CSU Photo of the Year

Vote now for Cal State LA’s photo submission by campus photographer J. Emilio Flores, which captures Cal State LA alumna and tennis legend Billie Jean King in a moment of joyful surprise as streamers fly during the unveiling of her statue on campus. The photo gallery highlights the favorite shots of each of the CSU’s 23 campuses from the last academic year. The winning photo and photographer will be recognized at an upcoming CSU Board of Trustees meeting. Cast your vote by Friday, Aug. 15.

The Luckman presents the Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet

The Luckman will present the world premiere of Raiford Rogers’ Islands in the Sea on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. Set to the music of Arvo Pärt, the ballet performance is inspired by the William James’ quote, “We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.” Cal State LA students, faculty, and staff can purchase discounted tickets at the Luckman Box Office upon presentation of a valid Cal State LA One Card.

Campus lighting upgrades enhance safety and sustainability

Cal State LA continues to advance campus safety and sustainability with new outdoor LED lighting at the Annex Lab, Campus Pool, Metro Walkway behind the University Stadium, Salazar Hall, and Paseo Rancho Castilla hillside walkway. These upgrades improve visibility in high-traffic areas and provide a safer environment during early morning and evening hours. As part of the broader Campus Outdoor Lighting Project, the university is piloting two advanced LED systems. The SIGMALUX Uplight in Parking Lot B includes motion sensors and smart controls, while the Brandon Industries Post Top fixture along Greenlee Plaza offers energy-efficient, dark-sky compliant lighting. Cal State LA accepting applications for spring 2026

Cal State LA has begun to accept applications for admission for spring semester 2026 on Aug. 1. Students interested in attending Cal State LA can apply online using the Cal State Apply application portal. The priority application period ends Aug. 31.

Parking and transportation information

Parking and Transportation Services is committed to providing information on purchasing parking permits and alternative commuting options to Cal State LA. To purchase a fall semester parking permit, visit the Parking and Transportation Services online portal. Please make sure to have your vehicle’s license plate number ready. The campus parking permit system is virtual and uses license plate recognition technology. Other alternative transportation options include the MetrolinkMetro, and Foothill Transit. Find additional information about these alternative commuting options online.

Cal State LA emergency information

During emergencies, Cal State LA relies on campus email and text notifications through Eagle Alert, social media, and the RAVE Guardian app to share information with students, faculty, and staff. Make sure to regularly check your campus email and verify your contact information is correct by following the instructions on the Eagle Alert website. You can also download the RAVE Guardian app.

University Reports is accepting entries from faculty, staff

The Office of Strategic Communications is accepting submissions for the next edition of University Reports. The web publication showcases professional activities and publications, as well as the awards received by our faculty and staff. Submit your information to the Office of Strategic Communications at paffairs@calstatela.edu for inclusion in the next issue.

Counseling services available for campus community

Employees may find counseling assistance through the Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters, by calling 1-800-367-7474 or visiting the LifeMatters website. Cal State LA’s company password is GOEAGLES. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides services to students throughout the summer. Counselors will be available to address issues such as anxiety management, emotional wellness, mindfulness, and more. For details, call 323-343-3314 or visit the CAPS website.
