Back-to-School Edition

The residence halls officially open for occupancy at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.  For a variety of reasons, some students need to be on campus before this date. Housing and Dining Services will allow you to move in to your permanent assignments anytime after 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, for an additional daily fee of $45. When you arrive, simply check in at your hall's front desk. Contracts for students who arrive early begin at time of check-in.

Please don't ship any items prior to an Aug. 18 arrival. Addresses for each residence hall can be found on the  HDS website . 

Move-In Day: Where to Go

We have created a plan in partnership with campus police to make traffic flow efficiently on the two busiest move-in days: Sunday, Aug. 18, and Saturday, Aug. 24.

 

If you plan to arrive on either of these days, please observe the directions specific to your residence hall to ensure the process goes as quickly and smoothly as possible. We are mailing these directions in addition to a move-in parking pass and map to all domestic residents. Click on your hall below to view a preview. Please bring this with you and place it on your dash to help our traffic and parking crew assist you.

Arrival Info and Tips

When you arrive at your residence hall, you must check in at your front desk before proceeding to your room. A staff member will provide you with directions from there. On Sunday, Aug. 18, and Saturday, Aug. 24, we will have staff and our Welcome Cat volunteers (wearing neon yellow T-shirts) to help you. The Welcome Cats will help direct traffic and carry belongings inside. However, we encourage you to bring a dolly or hand truck, as moving cart availability is limited.

You can reduce move-in stress by avoiding those two days, or by moving in after 7 p.m. from Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 22.  If you choose to move in after 7 p.m. on these days, the $45 early arrival fee for that day will be waived. All check-ins on Friday, Aug. 23, will incur a $45 early arrival fee. No check-ins will be permitted from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.

Complete Your Emergency Contact Card

To make Move-In a bit simpler and aid in our sustainability initiatives, we have moved our emergency and confidential contact information online. We ask all students to provide this information before arriving. Complete your contact information online or by scanning this QR code.

Students will not be able to check in to their residence hall without completing the emergency and confidential contact information.

Stay Connected and Download These Helpful Apps

K-State Alerts is Kansas State University's emergency notification system that gives campus authorities the ability to communicate emergency information to the university community quickly using a variety of channels.

LiveSafe is an app for the K-State Community that provides a direct connection to K-State police so everyone can easily communicate their safety needs. Share information and concerns via text, with picture, video and audio attachments, and the option to stay anonymous. You can even start a live chat.

Mandatory Floor Meetings

Housing and Dining Services staff will host floor/community meetings on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m. Important information about living on campus will be shared, therefore these meetings are mandatory for all residents. See your resident assistant (RA) for details. 

There will be no classes on Labor Day, Sept. 2, but the residence halls will remain open. Keep an eye out for more information on the weekend's dining center hours.

Roommate Agreements

When you move in to your on-campus living space, you and your roommate(s) will be asked to complete a roommate agreement. This document outlines expectations for cleaning, guests, noise, and other aspects of cohabitation that have the potential to cause conflict between roommates.

We hope this proactive approach will prevent problems, but should they occur, your hall staff are happy to counsel you through them. Let your RA know if you're having troubles before they get out of hand!

Meal Plans

All students can begin using the academic year meal plan selected on their contract on Saturday, Aug. 24. Meals for early occupancy students will be served at Kramer Dining Center beginning with breakfast on Monday, Aug. 19.  Learn more about dining on campus . 

Derby Dining Center Renovation

Housing and Dining Services is excited to announce that renovation of Derby Dining Center will take place during the 2019-2020 academic year. The renovation will include a new entry on the southeast corner of the building, updates to the first floor, a new single staircase entry to the food service area and a new open dining experience on the second floor. Updated fire safety and heat and air systems will be installed as well.

Derby will continue to serve meals to students during the renovation, though certain lines and menu concepts may be limited and pathways to and through the dining center may change as progress is made. Follow the progress at our construction updates page .
