A Message From the President
I recently had the opportunity to sit in a great event on campus, the Community Volunteer Fair. It was organized and hosted by Business students in capstone, social media and InDesign classes. The group invited several non-profit organizations to come to campus and recruit students for their volunteer activities.

While there were more than 55 student hosts and 75 attendees, the Volunteer Fair was one of many community-orientated volunteer events at Southeast Technical College.

Service to Community (STC) Days is going on now:

  • Mechatronics students are adapting battery operated cards for children with mobility issues through LifeScape’s Go Baby Go program.
  • Electrician students are wiring houses at CTE Academy.
  • SGA and Media Design Technology is holding a Campus Clean-Up Day on April 21.
  • General Education classes are assisting with outdoor projects at the Great Plains Zoo.
  • Environmental Science classes are cleaning up the Outdoor Campus.
  • The Nursing programs are volunteering at Special Olympics Southeast Games.
  • The Surgical Technology program is hosting a fundraiser at an upcoming professional conference and planning to donate the funds to charity.
  • Civil Engineering Technology and Land Surveying students are working with the Sioux Falls Monument Project.
  • Students taking Communication in the Workplace sent letters and thank you cards to nursing home workers, community members and government officials.
  • The Early Childhood Student Organization celebrated Week of the Young Child by developing and distributing a handout to positively influence young children.
  • Student Success held “Catch the Wave,” an event for high school students with disabilities to learn about college life.
  • Volunteers painted at a local Habitat for Humanity home.

Thank you to all of those participating in these volunteer activities for our community. Please watch STC’s website and social media channels for more news information about STC Days.

Best,

Bob Griggs
