Weekly Newsletter
Cultivating hearts and minds through the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Tune in to why we are here and why we do what we do for our scholars. This month we are focusing on the virtue of Courage with our Middle School Dean Mr. McGee.
A Note from the Headmaster

We need your help! It is important that your children are in school. While children with fever, vomiting, and diarrhea should always remain at home, children who are otherwise healthy should attend class. Please remember to schedule appointments after 9:25am, our official attendance taking time. Likewise, out of town plans should be restricted to breaks and weekends so that students don't miss school unnecessarily.

We want to give a special shout-out to SIXTH GRADE FAMILIES, as our 6th graders have had the best attendance this year to date:  95.56%!

As a reminder, our attendance guidelines are available on our website: link here. Beginning on February 1st, parents will be notified via email each time their student is tardy to school (all students) or tardy to class (upper school students.) Please note that five tardies to school or class, in a given quarter, will result in a lunch detention.

Thank you for your partnership in helping your scholar be on time to class!
Community Investment
5 Days of Giving
Next month (02/07/22-02/11/22) our Director of Academy Giving will be launching the first annual 5 DAYS OF GIVING. We have a $20,000 Community Investment goal for the week. Our Community Investment is funded by our generous families.
A few things that will be happening during the week of 5 days of giving are :
  • Daily Prizes
  • Spirit Days (2/7-2/11/22) ~crazy sock day, hat day, favorite sports team shirt day, crazy hair day, and school spirit shirt day~
  • Matching - We are looking for individual and businesses that would like to match Community Investment gifts that come in during the week of February 7- February 11. Please contact Stacy Feeley if you would like to participate in matching.

During the 5 Days of Giving, Great Hearts Arlington Scholars are encouraged to give too! We will collect, package, and distribute bags for the homeless. There will
be grade level request for specific items to be used to fill the bags. Look for a letter with more details coming home with your Scholar next week.

Matching Gifts
If your company is offering Matching Gifts, please keep Great Hearts Arlington in mind! Corporate Matching Gifts are a great way to double your gift. If you have questions, contact Director of Academy Giving Stacy Feeley at [email protected]
What is Community Investment?
The Community Investment Campaign provides our faculty and students with the resources they need to learn and thrive. Unlike traditional public schools, charter schools do not receive local taxes nor state funding for school facilities, resulting in large gaps in revenue between charter schools and local school districts.

Great Hearts Day
What is Great Hearts Day?
It is a tradition handed down by the founding Great Hearts Schools. Academies celebrate Great Hearts Day on February 14th every year. At Great Hearts we make it a habit to celebrate the curriculum instead of holidays and most often do it through literature celebrations. On this special day, students and teachers will celebrate more than just the curriculum – they will celebrate all things Great Hearts: those things that make us unique as scholars in a community of learners, and most especially the virtue of friendship.
How does it look in the classroom?
Teachers will include the virtue of friendship into a part of their lesson plans for the day. Scholars can make cards celebrating the virtue of friendship to pass out in class. The PSO will also have virtue cards that can be purchased. Cards cannot be store bought or have any reference to Valentine’s Day.
Covid-19 Reporting
To report a positive case of Covid-19, please notify your child's teacher and contact [email protected].

We have created a helpful page on our website with further information regarding Covid-19 and the Safe Return plan for Great Hearts Texas. Please visit the webpage HERE.

Our full attendance guidelines for Covid-19 or any other illnesses can be found HERE. Contact our nurse team with any questions or concerns at [email protected].
Athletics and Clubs
Middle School Athletics
Great Hearts 6th and 7th grade scholars are very excited about the Athletics Program launch next month. Track begins on 02/21/22. The attached link will take you to the registration page. The cost is $180 per athlete.
Please contact our Middle School Dean, Justin McGee with any questions. Mr. McGee can also direct you on how to sponsor a Middle School Scholar for the Athletic Program.
Quarter 3 Clubs
Quarter 3 clubs are in full swing! All students attending clubs should be picked up at the back door promptly at 4:45pm. For the safety of all, parents are asked to park and walk up to the back door holding their students’ placards. Please do not use the carline for club pick up.

For the full club schedule, along with teacher contact information, please visit https://arlington.greatheartsamerica.org/clubs/.
Parent Service Organization (PSO) Corner
Monthly Coffee Social
Parents are welcome to join us the first Wednesday of the month (unless otherwise noted) for coffee and conversation. Our next coffee social will be held on February 9th from 7:45-8:15 a.m. in the multiple purpose room.  We have something exciting in store, and look forward to building our school community with you!

General PSO Meeting Updates
Thank you to the many families who joined us this week for our first PSO general meeting. View the presentation and recording on the PSO website. We want to hear from you, please take our PSO Interest Survey.

Great Hearts Day
In the spirit of Friendship (virtue), Great Hearts Day will be recognized on
February 14. Scholars will have the opportunity to purchase virtue cards to give to their classmates. Virtue cards may be purchased by order form (check your scholar’s backpack) or in-person during lunch between January 31 — February 4. Virtue cards are $5 for 30, and cards will be sent home with your scholar by February 11.

On Great Hearts Day, scholars will give their virtue cards to their classmates at the time designated by the teacher. Scholars may bring a box or a bag to collect their virtue cards in. The box or bag may be decorated to the theme of Friendship, but must be free of any pop-culture references including Valentine’s Day.

Note: Please return your order form in your scholar’s backpack by February 4.

Volunteers Needed
We are looking for volunteers to help pass out QR codes during carline, collect change, sell virtue cards and more! Want to help? Email us for more details.
