Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
Thanks to those of you who attended Kitty McNeill’s retirement party as we celebrated her three-decade career at Oxford. Her library colleagues (pictured here) organized a wonderful send-off to recognize her work and contributions.
A reminder that later this week, we’ll honor another person who has become an Oxford institution—Dean Joe Moon. Joe’s retirement party will take place on Friday, April 28 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. in Candler Hall. You can send your best wishes via video message at this link.
This Saturday, April 29, I encourage you to stop by campus to connect with former students in town for Alumni Weekend. We’ll also be celebrating several milestone reunions. Learn more about this year’s festivities and register here.
Lastly, this past Friday the Oxford Farm hosted our annual spring reception for faculty and staff—always a much-needed gathering to regroup and catch up ahead of the semester’s final stretch.
We’re almost at the finish line. Hang in there!
Best regards,
Ken

NAME: Lyn Pace
TITLE/DEPT: College Chaplain — Office of Religious & Spiritual Life
|
|
How long have you been at Oxford?
I've been at Oxford for fourteen years. Broadly, I see my work as helping all of us make meaning out of our lived experience together. Though I sometimes do things with faculty and staff, I work primarily with students—teaching, coordinating all the work of the religious and spiritual life groups, offering pastoral care and counsel, offering a range of programs, retreating, traveling, and more.
|
|
What do you like best about your job and about Oxford?
I enjoy seeing students develop over the course of their two years, especially when they wrap their heads, hearts, and souls around what it means to make a life even more so than a lifestyle. I appreciate how much people want to see students flourish here—which speaks to the kind of community we are and that we seek.

What is your favorite song/tv show/movie/restaurant/podcast?
I like just about any song by Jimmy Buffett. I love the West Wing and Ted Lasso. My favorite movie is the Harry Potter series, and my favorite podcast is Harry Potter and the Sacred Text.
|
|
What makes you happy or brings you joy?
My family and our wild Irishdoodle, Barnaby, close friends, reading, travel, enjoying good food and drink with friends, and writing. Oh, and music, I love music, especially Jimmy Buffett and going to his concerts with my best friend.

Austin Scharf, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, presented a talk entitled "Systematic structural variations in transition metal dipyrrin complexes: Effects on luminescence" at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Indianapolis in late March. He was accompanied by four of his research students: Allison Chang and Madeleine Bloomer, both current Oxford sophomores, and Kevin Hoffman and Will Dougherty, current juniors at ECAS, who all presented posters of their projects.
