Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
On Friday, April 14, the library will host its annual Day of Celebration of Creative Scholarship and Expression. The event runs from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and I encourage you each to attend and see some of the incredible research and creative work produced by our faculty, staff, and students. There will be a reception in the library for faculty and staff from 4:00–6:00 p.m. If you haven’t already RSVPed to the reception, please do so here by Friday, April 7. A full schedule of events is here.
Thanks to our Communications staff for organizing last week’s #OxPrinciples Scavenger Hunt. Over the course of the week, they shared clues on social media that led to locations across campus—each clue in accordance with our principles of belonging, care, learning, identity, accountability, and presence. I had the pleasure of greeting many students who found their way to me in the library. Speaking of #OxPrinciples, this April we are focusing on presence—reminding us to live in the here and now as we enter the final stretch of the semester.
Best,
Ken

Oxford Dining Executive Chef Demetrise Edwards wins Gold at Bon Appetit's "The Battle of the Bacon"
|
|
Twenty-five chefs from across Bon Appetit's accounts were selected to compete in a Chopped-style, plant-forward cooking competition during a regional meeting in March. Chefs were broken into teams and given two hours to create a minimum of two plant-forward items, plus a plant-forward "bacon" utilizing the provided mystery basket ingredients for Bon Appetit's "The Battle of the Bacon". The winning team was chosen by RDMs, GMs, and guests from across the region by casting a vote for the most unique and flavorful dish. Demetrise Edwards, Oxford Dining's executive chef, and his team won by creating a beautiful Mediterranean spread. The regional hosts of the competition chose the dish that they felt was the most unique and innovative plant-forward dish--by unanimous decision Demetrise's vegan Hushpuppies took home the gold!

On Tuesday, April 11, a discussion titled "Reproductive & Transgender Justice Now! Resistance-in-Action in the U.S. South- and Beyond" will take place in the Oxford Chapel at 7:00 p.m.
Bodily autonomy, human dignity, and collective liberation are at the core of overlapping struggles for reproductive and transgender justice. This is a moment in which these are under vicious attack, particularly here in the U.S. South. Please join us for an urgent conversation with key leaders at the forefront of movement organizing, legal and policy battles, and community care!
The conversation will be between Kwajelyn Jackson (Feminist Women's Health Center, Executive Director) and Carl Charles (Lambda Legal, Senior Attorney).
