Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
It was great to be with so many of you at the Academic Retreat at Lake Lanier last week. In my short time as dean, I’ve already learned from many different corners of the community—and I look forward to continuing to listen as the new school year gets underway.
As you know, a large number of first-year students are already on campus—including almost 80 for the Oxford Ignite Leadership program, nearly 100 for International Student Welcome, and the many athletes here for the start of fall sports. Some second years have been showing them the ropes as Ignite leaders, RAs, iMentors, and teammates. The rest of our first-year class will be arriving on Friday, and I can’t wait to meet them—along with their families and friends—as they get their first taste of college life.
I’m also looking forward to attending my first ever Oxford Olympics—as long as no one asks me to run the inflatable obstacle course!

Students learn campus traditions at Ignite Oxford pre-orientation.

A week from today, on Wednesday, August 23, we’ll gather at Williams Gymnasium for Convocation, followed by the traditional candlelight procession through the quad. From what I’ve heard, this is a truly special experience.
I hope to see you there—and throughout this busy orientation week.
Warmly,
Badia

How long have you been at Oxford?
This fall, I'll be starting my 3rd year at Oxford. I coordinate events for the Oxford Studies course and Lyceum committee. I also support the Music and Performing Arts programs.
|
|
What do you like best about your job and about Oxford?
Hands down the students, every time—they make my job so fun. My student assistants are a joy to be around and the students in the Oxford Studies class blow me away with their insights and questions. They give me hope for the future.

What is your favorite song/tv show/movie/restaurant/podcast?
It's hard to choose a favorite song. My Spotify list has everything from a Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 to Ludacris to Twenty One Pilots to Etta James to Willie Nelson to Joy Oladokun to Rage Against the Machine.

|
What makes you happy or brings you joy?
I have a pollinator garden that is wild and chaotic and refuses to remain within the boundaries I established, and seeing the bees, butterflies, and birds enjoying it makes me happy.
I also love being in Few Hall—listening to students practice is one of my favorite things.
