A note from the Dean
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

This year’s Convocation marked an inspiring start to the academic year. I was especially proud to see so many of our sophomores welcome and support our first-year students. Many thanks to Emorja Roberson for his beautiful voice; Effrosyni Seitaridou for encouraging students to seek the truth and reminding us the laws of physics suggest we will go with and against the grain at different times of our lives; Michael Cao for being a wonderful representative of our students; and Melissa Hage and Lyn Pace for their contributions to the ceremony—and to all those who helped plan the day’s many moving parts. I also want to thank President Fenves and Provost Bellamkonda for their presence at and support of this important tradition.

It was a joy to bring back our Candlelight Procession for the first time since August 2019 due to COVID and inclement weather. Seeing everyone together, sophomores “passing the torch” to first-years, was a great reminder of why this is such a cherished tradition.

I know everyone is settling into the new semester, getting to know our new students, and helping our returning students get back into the swing of Oxford life. We’re off to a good start.

Best regards,
Ken

Staff updates
Allana Jules, the new General Manager for Oxford Dining, joined the Bon Appetit family in 2015 as the manager of Starbucks on Emory's Atlanta campus. She has since broadened her horizons to catering and retail, becoming Director of Catering and, after that, Retail General Manager.

"I've cultivated a passion for the industry with the belief that good food makes people happy," she said. "When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, trying new foods, spending time with family, and taking selfies with our new baby girl Ari Rose."

Join us in welcoming Allana to the Oxford community.
2022 Oxford Class Gift update
Thank you to those who have supported the 2022 Oxford Class Gift in honor of Dr. Bill Shapiro. There is still time for others to show support as well. TODAY, August 31 is the last day to make a gift in fiscal year 2022.

Our class of 2022 has raised over $9,000, and we hope to raise $1,000 more in order to reach our goal of $10,000. A few weeks ago, it was decided that the class gift support the Bike Oxford program in honor Dr. Shapiro. A retirement celebration was held on April 30 where the gift was announced.

We invite you to support Oxford through our class gift. Your participation is vital to a successful campaign. We appreciate any contribution, no matter the size. We encourage a gift of $20.22 or more in recognition of the Class of 2022. Donors often choose to make their gifts in honor of family members, students, or colleagues.

If you have any further questions, please contact Tammy Camfield 89Ox 91C, senior director of advancement and alumni engagement.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Sincerely,
Anya Kasubhi 22Ox 24C and Wes Yamada 22Ox 24C
