Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I hope you have fully settled into the semester. I wanted to bring your attention to a few upcoming opportunities.
First, I encourage faculty to submit project proposals for the Summer Oxford Research Scholars program. This is a great way to involve students in your summer research. Proposals are due on March 1, and you can apply here.
Second, as is further detailed in this week’s newsletter, I invite faculty and staff to nominate rising sophomores for the Sammy Clark Scholarship, named after Oxford’s longest-tenured Chaplain. Please submit your nominations here by March 16.
Lastly, the Twin Memorials Working Group continues to invite students to attend the additional listening session arranged specifically for them tonight, Thursday, Feb. 17, from 8:00–9:30 p.m. If you have the time, please encourage your students to participate. Their input is extremely valuable to this process.
Thank you again for all you do for our campus community.
Best,
Doug

Listening and Support Session
|
|
|
On behalf of Oxford Human Resources, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and the Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), you are invited to attend a 1-hour virtual group Listening & Support Session today, Feb. 17, from 12:15–1:15 on Zoom. This session will provide a safe space for sharing and receiving support around the impact of grief, loss, and ongoing uncertainty. Whether recent or previous, unexpected or anticipated, tragic or peaceful, the cumulative effect of the loss of students, colleagues, family members, or friends can take a heavy toll. You will be invited to share and/or listen as colleagues express how they’ve been impacted, as well as strategies they’ve found helpful for coping. The facilitators will highlight additional support resources and provide and invite suggestions for upcoming self-care and team/community-care opportunities. Participation is voluntary, and all faculty and staff who prefer or need individual support may contact one of Oxford’s chaplains (Lyn Pace or Alex Miller-Knaack) or the FSAP @ 404-727-WELL (9355) or efsap@emory.edu.
The session will be co-facilitated by the Rev. Dr. Lyn Pace, College Chaplain and a FSAP staff clinician. To access this session, please go to this link.

Sammy Clark Scholarship nominations
|
|
For the sixteenth year, Oxford will present the Sammy Clark Scholarship to a rising sophomore. This scholarship was established to honor former Oxford chaplain Sammy Clark and provides a $5,000 award for the sophomore year. This community service-oriented scholarship is given to a student who, through community involvement and personal initiative, exemplifies the ideals of service and volunteerism.
The candidate must be enrolled at Oxford both fall and spring semesters of the first year (with the intention of enrolling both fall and spring of the sophomore year). The recipient should be someone who is a servant leader and exhibits a genuine concern for the needs of his or her fellow human beings.
Note that students do not nominate themselves but must be nominated by Oxford faculty or staff. Please only submit one nominee per person. The deadline for nominations is March 16.
All students nominated (who have earned a 2.5 GPA or above) will be informed of the nomination and will be asked to submit a résumé and a letter of application detailing their community service.
