Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

I hope you are enjoying having students back in the classroom. It has been great to see the campus coming back to life over the last few days.

February is Black History Month, and it offers continued opportunities for both reflection and celebration. I invite you all to be on the lookout for events and chances to participate. Last month, Emory held its annual King Week, and in the Oxford celebration we discussed ways we can honor Dr. King’s legacy here on our campus. Those messages continue to resonate this month, as they do every month.

I remind you that tomorrow and Friday, the Twin Memorials Working Group will hold community engagement sessions to solicit input into the design of monuments dedicated to enslaved individuals and others with historic ties to Oxford and Emory. You can learn more at twinmemorials.com and RSVP for a session here

  • Oxford Staff Community Meeting: Feb. 3, 2:30–3:45 p.m. at Phi Gamma Hall. Refreshments will be provided.
  • Oxford Student Community Meeting: Feb. 4, 11:30 a.m.–12:50 p.m. at the Student Center. Box lunches will be provided.
  • Oxford Faculty & Staff Community Meeting: Feb. 4, 3:30–5:00 p.m. at Phi Gamma Hall. Refreshments will be provided.

Your voice is important, so I hope you will find time to come to one of these sessions and to encourage your students to attend as well. You can also share your ideas and thoughts here

As we celebrate Black History Month, let us continue to seek innovative ways to create a just and inclusive campus community.

Best,
Doug
